I just ordered my iphone and it should be coming to my door sometine this week. It's coming from apple so it's most likely gonna be version 1.1.1. I was reading that you can't unlock a out of the box 1.1.1 iphone. My question is should I try to return the iphone since I don't want it if it can't be unlocked or should I wait for some new software to unlock 1.1.1 iphones?

Return it unopened (so as not to pay the restocking fee). There's currently no way to unlock a 1.1.1 phone (that is, to make it work with a non-AT&T SIM).

If you want to use AT&T or whatever the "approved" carrier in your area is, though, you can still downgrade the OS to 1.0.2 and use 3rd party native apps, if that's what you want...

I really want the iphone, are you sure there is nothing i can do so I can use it with my service, I got the old at&t. Also, Will there be a new unlocking program coming out soon? I don't mind holding on to my phone for a couple weeks

yes people will work out how to solve your problem in the next few weeks, just spend time reading the forum a bit more and you will find any answers you need.

A friend of mine works for apple and I got a 25% discount on the iphone. He orders it and then it gets shipped to my house. I hope it does not have the 1.1.1 firmware, but if it does I guess I'll wait till a new unlock method is out

well u can downgrade it if u want

So it is possible to downgrade a brand new iPhone with 1.11 fw to 1.02 and then to unlock and activate it, right?

Because my Dad is going to his Cousine in the USA and he will buy one for me.

From what I understand that once you install 1.1.1 on your iphone you can't get it unlocked, that's why i'm hoping mine doesn't have it already installed
