Jailbreak 1.1.2 using G4 iMac
Hi,
I am considring purchasing a 1.1.2 iPhone to Jailbreak, but was wondering if anyone had successfully done this with a usb 1.1 connection?
I would assume that the only difference as far as the iPhone is concerned is the speed that the Jailbreak with happen, but I have experience of another device (PVR) where the timings of certain parts of the handshake between devices means you have to have USB 2 to make a firmware update work.
As I only have USB 1.1 on my G4 iMac, I was looking for a bit of reassurance before splashing the cash
Has anyone else done this on a similary specced device?
Cheers
Stu.

I certainly do hope it does work, as i've just purchased mine (OOTB 1.1.2), and will do it at the latest tomorrow. I'm on G4 as well. Will report if you wish...

technically it should work as most USB2.0 devices are backward compatible with USB1.1 ports. My 1st gen iPod mini was working just fine (though very slow) with my old laptop's USB1.1 port.

It says on the website it requires an actual 2.0 USB port but that may be due to the fact that USB 1 cannot charge the battery if it's completely dead, it doesn't have enough power to boost it (much like the iPods).

that shouldn't be a problem, you can kick it off using the wall charger included in the box.

exactly, that was the problem with iPods -> they don't come with a charger. The iPhone does obviously so I think it will just work.

I confirm it did work for me, just did it.
I did have to update to a minimum of 10.4.10 (went all the way to 10.4.11 at the same time) and updated iTunes also to 7.5
No probs what-so-ever, however i'm stuck at the jailbreaking step, i get fine on the installation page, but it just crashes after 1-2 seconds and i'm back to the emergency screen. But this is not the subject on this thread, just wanted to say it worked on my G4 (400MHz PCI tour).
My first iPhone i've seen, it sure is beautiful

Hersh, the jailbreakme problem is due to the busy server on the other side. All you have to do is keep trying , and avoid peak times ! If you can do it at night, it may go on the first try. It took mine some 20 tries to get it done !!!!

Yeah it got pretty frustrating (20+ times), and then i found this tip in another post about going first to jailbreak.toc2rta.com (cheers jeffdak), which worked like a charm, as in it crashed Safari, and after that jailbreakme.com worked the first time trying.
Oktoprep and update to 1.1.2, and it's done. So i confirm, the whole procedure works just fine on my G4 with USB 1.1. Hope on yours too
