Default [iTunes] 1011 error / bricked phone progress update:

I have a phone that has turned into a bit of a project for me. The day after I met my would-be girlfriend, she dropped it in a sink... that contained water. I bought it from her for virtually pennies in hopes I could fix it. Eventually replaced the comm/main board and battery and it booted up.. but gave the greyed-out "no WiFi" error. I updated from 1.0.2 to 1.1.4 and that's when I got the dreaded 1011 error. No firmware version would write to it without giving me 1011 in iTunes. I restored back to 1.0.2 and logged hours and hours researching solutions. Trying ieraser, ziphone (i know, i know), iliberty... nothing would work. The phone would just freeze as soon as they tried working on it. Any suggested method would fail immediately because the firmware was ruined. I suspect a mismatch between baseband and firmware versions or a corrupt baseband.. ? I dunno.

ALL I could do in normal mode was see the emergency call screen with the "repair needed" popup.. the OS was laggy and no calls could be made so not even #307# would work. Trying to activate the phone to bypass that screen would lock up the phone or send it into the BSD loop which would then require me to restore it in iTunes again. Even though the previous owner had it jailbroken, the file system was now relocked and not accessible.

Then today I decided to give ZiPhone one more shot. I tried ONLY the "jailbreak the file system" option with 1.0.2 on the phone. No luck. I then restored back to 1.1.4 just for the heck of it and again ran ONLY the "jailbreak the file system" option under ziphone's advanced features.... **this time it completed successfully**. I decided to press my luck and then ran ONLY the "activate" option. Again, this time, it succeeded. Next thing you know, I'm staring at a home screen full of icons! I guess it was just finding the right order and combination of things. For the record, for some reason, iLiberty would NOT activate or jailbreak the phone in the state it was in, for some reason. For those of you who poo-poo ZiPhone..

Bricked, my eye. Now the bad news.. While it's semi up and running again, here's the current status: bluetooth MAC shows up at all zeros. No WiFi. no imei. no iccid. no firmware version listed. All those fields are simply blank. Tried running iLiberty's "no wifi" fix and it re-bricked the phone (would only boot to the apple logo and then stick there) which required the above actions again to restore it. I still get the "repair needed" error popup as well.

Next up, now that the filesystem is finally open: Try to manually reflash the firmware.

EDIT: I used iLiberty to install BBInfo now. On opening it, it displays "pinging baseband" but never moves past that. HAS to be a corrupt baseband..

2ND UPDATE: Tried running the baseband unlock from iLiberty just for the fun of it.. it got stuck at checking the bootloader version. Eventually hard rebooted it and, surprise surprise, the phone was re-bricked again. Restoring now. So that leaves me at this... how to reflash the bootloader?

Yup, you have no baseband. If you have access to a Mac, I would try to Pwn the phone and upload an pwned 1.1.4 with bootneuter. Bootneuter will make reflashing the baseband easier as all the version checks will be gone.

As far as getting Bootneuter on the phone without pwnage and without wifi... I think there is an iLiberty/iPlus payload which will do it. You jailbroke with ZiPhone and therefore you dont have AFC2 support to use iBrickr or similar tools, so that won't work.

Try to find an iLiberty payload with Bootneuter, bbupdater and some eep/fls files to flash the firmware.

    Good luck.

Lovely! haha. I don't have access to a Mac. I've been told I can manually delete the baseband though.. is this true? If so, where is that sucker?

Thanks for the info and suggestions! I actually jailbroke with iLiberty after this last restore. Does that change my options somewhat? I'm not familiar with this... AFC2.

EDIT: Did some research on AFC2. Still having a heck of a time wiping the baseband. It's not just a directory tree or set of files I can manually erase since I have full access to the filesystem via the cable by using iPhoneBrowser is it? If I try ieraser, it hangs. If I use iLiberty to try and reflash the baseband, it gets stuck at "checking baseband version". If I try to erase the baseband with iLiberty, it gets stuck at "checking bootloader version".

Me too at exactly same point.. iLiberty does a jailbreat & activation for me only in v 1.1.4.
I want to use iLiberty on v1.1.2 so that I can use VT-100 terminal and run bbupdated on ver 1.1.2. Can somebody help?

I would search the pawnage section for that result but iliberty should set you straight just make sure you have installer checked in the advanced prefs tab unless you want cydia

    I would try something new.....
    http://wikee.iphwn.org/_media/sgold_...nk&cache=cache
download this programm by the dev-team,named sping.
Copy it via iBrickr or iNdependence to your (jailbroken and activated) phone
    into /usr/bin/
    Open terminal on the phone:
    Code:
    launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
    cd /usr/bin
    chmod +x sping
    sping
Please post the output in this thread, lets see if i can help you!
iUnBrick - Just give it a try if ZiPhone broke your phone!

I posted this in another thread but I'll repost it here in case someone else has an idea:

sping gives me: "Bootrom not responding to AT"

bbupdater -v gives me: "pinging baseband..." waits for a while, and then spits out "baseband unresponsive to pinging"

Even DFU restores in iTunes give a 1011 error. Seems I have one of the dorked phones with a corrupted bootloader and baseband. No WiFi, no phone, no bluetooth, etc. Even BootNeuter gets stuck at "Determining current settings" (since all it seems to be is a GUI interface for bbupdater).

Seems all the bootloader/baseband reflashing/deleting tools out there won't just brute-force overwrite what's currently there without checking or pinging it first which doesn't work for those of us with corrupted basebands and bootloaders... arggghhh..

EDIT: I was also going to try the A17 hardware hack to see if I can force a reflash.. I don't even know, at this point.
