bbupdater -v gives me: "pinging baseband..." waits for a while, and then spits out "baseband unresponsive to pinging"
Even DFU restores in iTunes give a 1011 error. Seems I have one of the dorked phones with a corrupted bootloader and baseband. No WiFi, no phone, no bluetooth, etc. Even BootNeuter gets stuck at "Determining current settings" (since all it seems to be is a GUI interface for bbupdater).
Seems all the bootloader/baseband reflashing/deleting tools out there won't just brute-force overwrite what's currently there without checking or pinging it first which doesn't work for those of us with corrupted basebands and bootloaders... arggghhh..
EDIT: I was also going to try the A17 hardware hack to see if I can force a reflash.. I don't even know, at this point.
I have the same problem, but in my case sping is responding.
sping gives
ping -v
Opened: /dev/tty.debug
Spamming AT, waiting for a response
Connection to bootrom established
Successfull ping! Serial payloads are executable.
bbupdater -v gives following output
resetting target...
pinging the baseband...
baseband unresponsive to pinging
Done

any ideas where to go from here

you can check this http://iunbrick.blogspot.com/, it's suppose to help people with this problem (myself included), right now it's only hardware but they already found an exploit to do it via software, i'm waiting for the release

i got a 1101 error phone here too, (i recently repalced the commboard and battery from a working phone into the case of this one, removed the repair needed commboard and put it in my tester)
so now i got this 1101 tester too that has got my attention
it too cant be restored, jailbreaked, unlocked or activated, nothing works on this... bootneuter etc always get stuck pinging/determingin the baseband/bootloader.. my experiences with this phone are exact to those posted in this thread
hardware A17 seems like the only solutions for now

I tried the A17 trick, no luck at all, i belive its cos theres no baseband

1011 error is a nightmare.
A17 might not even work.
I don't think there is a "software" method that can resolve this issue.
The other hardware method that i know of is to replace the flash + sgold but that is no small feat for normal user.

a friend came over with his iphone needing help.
he said, he had talked on the phone normally, put it down, went out of the room, came back and it was off.....
battery was loaded and he didnt drop it seemed dead. just dead screen completley blank.
when i connected to the computer i was able to get into recover and dfu mode but to every firmware i restored the 1101 error came and the screen stayed completley blank the whole time.
so i started searching what 1101 was and found..some that had fixed it either with "go to 1.2 then to 1.1.4 and blabla and another guy said "i just left the laying around for a month, tried to turn it on and it worked again!".
so for me it ment...you cant fix it right on the spot, and i had finals comming up so i didnt want to worry to much about a phone that wasnt even mine. so there it was just laying on my desk for almost a week. after i cam home from my finals...i felt really good cuz school was finally over....i went out, cam back at 1:30am sat infront of my pc and then just thought "oh what the hell" turned on the "bricked" iphone and it worked!!!!
it turned on and i was able to do a normal restore to 1.1.4 and j/a/u.
one thing was weired tho....iliberty didnt work with it...it always said that it couldnt get the phone into recovery mode...i had never used iliberty before so i just went ahead and tried ziphone and that worked perfectly so know...i have a happy friend again
oh yea and the a 17 thing is they way how i unlocked my iphone when i first got it...1.1.2 but with the new bootloader...so i doubt that this will work for this
