It's a non-opensource proprietary unlock method offered by a company called iPhone SimFree. Costs money but when iPhone first became available, it was the first company to announce an unlocking method. Some people have paid for it and used it, like me, while others waited and used Dev Team's method.

It's not the best but it seems to be restore-proof. But you pay a pretty hefty price for it ($60). As of now it is only BL 3.9, and lost restore-proof for 1.1.3.

It didn't lose the restore proof for 1.1.3... I have an IPSF phone which started life at 1.1.1 and is now running the full fat 1.1.3 firmware with no issues. The only real headache was JBing the 1.1.3. I don't favour this unlock solution you understand, just expressing my experience ;-)

Sorry, I should have added a bit more info to the above post. IPSF does survive the upgrade to the new baseband, and is restore proof (sorry strang, you're wrong with your statement it does not, no offence meant). The steps are upgrade to 1.1.3 in iTunes (which puts in the new BB), downgrade to 1.1.1 and JB, upgrade to 1.1.2 and JB, then use the dev teams 1.1.3 JB method. Voila, you have a 1.1.3 phone with the software *and* the new baseband all working. Currently you need to run a minicom script once to get a signal (I practically never reboot my phone, but you'll need to do this each time if you do). All the 1.1.3 features work for me without any assistance.

BTW, as I did for 1.1.2, I am working up an experimental lockdownd for 1.1.3 so you won't need to run the minicom commands. Currently I have one which gets you a signal without the minicom script, but then crashes the phone if you try to make a call. If no one else submits a working one in the meantime, I hope to be able to post mine to the usual place in the next week or two.
