Afaik when ipsf contacts the server, the only information exchanged is probably if the person has bought it genuinely or not ,if not then it would just disconnect , if yes it probably downloads the unlock file which patches the phone in the "right way"
so I still would want to try that file to unlock and upgrade to 1.1.1 and then downgrade to 1.02 and see what all has changed.
so if some one with a legit license can grab that file via wireshark (i'm not sure which tool ) or something we can get going.

I just want to first say that I am a complete n00b so feel free to bash my ideas if they seem utterly stupid, but...
- Because IPSF requires verification from its servers, this means one of two things, it either downloads a file upon verification or it simply authenticates and unlocks the software on your desktop. The only way around this would seem to be to catch the packets that are sent and received from your PC and to analyze them and see exactly what information is being transmitted.
- If we know what commands are sent to the iPhone from your PC, we should be able to duplicate those, possibly even if the software is not authenticated via the server.
- Analyzing the differences between the stock firmware and the unlocked firmware should also provide some insight into how this thing works.
Seriously guys... cmon. How long did it take to crack Windows Vista??? And with that scenario we only had the PC community breakin' their backs, now with the iPhone we have Mac and PC pushing for the same goal... how long can it take???
