iPhone not recognized as device after changing lockdownd
I was going through the process of downgrading 1.1 to 1.0.2 in order to move back up to 1.1 (with unlock, etc.). However, I think I screwed up big time.
I used iBrickr to downgrade (successfully). Then, I read some instructions to use iBrickr to replace the lockdowd file for unlocking. I think I incorrectly used the 1.1 lockdownd file.
Now my Windows machine doesn't recognize the iPhone when I plug it into the USB port. And therefore nothing recognizes it (iBrickr, iTunes). It's unlocked and has WiFi access, but doesn't have any tools like SSH installed so I can seem to access it in any way.
Any ideas? Or, do I have to toss my beautiful iPhone?

Does the phone still charge when plugged into the USB?

Then i think we have found the culprit!! Its been doing my head in since last nite...
If you put the phone into restore mode and connect it up iTunes recognizes it and wants to restore it. So its not a physical fault...
Can we replace the lockdownd file manually to save time and effort maybe?

Sure, but I'm not sure how to do this since I can't access the iPhone with anything.

You can access with SSH... I did last nite. You can charge with mains adaptor too.

I don't have OpenSSH and BSD installed on the iPhone. I thought that was necessary in order to connect to it. And I can't put them on because it's not recognized thru USB. I've tried putty and WinSCP and both refuse connections because they require SSH and BSD installed on the phone. And iBrickr doesn't think the phone is connected.

Ah i see! :-( Then i think a restore is the way forward for you.... Hold the 2 buttons etc and connect to iTunes it will connect to start the restore. See how you get on...
Let me know!

Sweet! Didn't know about Restore mode.
1) Unplug phone from computer
2) Turn off the phone
3) Press and hold the Home key and plug the phone into computer
4) Yellow triangle will show up (let go of Home button)
5) Start iTunes and do a Restore
Fixed!!!
Thanks mucho.
