IPHONE to IPOD transmutation project (problem)
HI guys:
I was happily following the great instructions when I got a feeling something was not right.
i loaded down iphone1,1_1.1.1_3a109a_Restore.ipsw .
In Itunes, I hit option restore and I didn't see that 3d box icon with a musical note on it that says iphone1,1_1.1.1_3a109a_Restore.ipsw .
Instead I have a these files to choose from
called
009-7698-4.dmg
694-5298-5.dmg
firmware folder
kernalcache.reslease.s518900xrb
selecting any of them causes wrong error code 1403 not 1015
Sorry for the stupid question.
don't want to bug you guys but....
any help would be great.

you have to HOLD option, then click on RESTORE. a box should appear then you select what version of firmware wherever you saved it on your computer.
i wouldn't do this tho until you read more, seems like your a little clueless on how things work

Hello scotgpat,
you need to navigate finder to the folder where you downloaded the fiwrmare file.
but yeah, smirkis is right... by the sound of it, you don't quite know how to even navigate through your files... i would assume this process is too complicated for you.

Subtle variations but it worked
I now have a 400 dollar 8 gig ipod...so maybe I'm a loser but you know what it still feels great to have a functioning iphone even without the phone!
It better that then activation page "please slide for emergency"
A word to those who want to do this. I found that it took probably 5 downloads of APP SNAP before she worked.
But it does work.
Could not be easier.
Congrats and thanks
