Default Iphone has touch screen problem ... and its unlocked what to do ???

    Hi guys...

i bought an iphone 2 days ago... unlocked it as soon as i got home .. i activated to work with my current att sim card...

    yesterday the touchscreen stopped responding...

so i called the apple store.. .they said to do a reset.. i did... still the same !!!

they said bring it back and we will exchnage it for you as long as our tech guys verify it hasn't had any 3rd party software on it ...

    what do i do ?

i want to relock it .... somehow... but i cant actually access anything from the screen ...

i have restored it back to 1.02 again ... and its still the same..

so i guess my question is .. shall i upgrade to 1.1.1 and take it back as i am sure its a hardware fault... and i suppose that way the will never know i unlocked it in the first place... as the latest firware relocks it ??

am i right or am i missing something..

thanks in advance for any help

    Regards,

    JJ

Yeah I suggest you update to 1.1.1. That way they won't know. I guess.

If you Restore and update to 1.1.1, and then you take it to your local Apple Store, they maybe exchange it for a brand new.

If you did the anySIM unlock I would be 110% sure that touch screen is truly broken, because if you flash to 1.1.1 you will get the mismatching IMEIs (the one accessible from the italicized "i" on the activated screen and the one on the back of your phone) and they will blacklist your phone. (no warranty)

Otherwise I don't think they have any way of finding out your iPhone is unlocked (I don't think they have diag software they run on their laptops...yet)

    Good Luck!

FYI if using an at&t SIM you don't need to fully unlock, you can Jailbreak/PACAY and you'll be good to go (that's what I'm doing so I can use my company SIM)

I have the exact same problem! I plan on keeping the iPhone with firmware 1.02.

Should i activate the phone (jailbreak first?) and then bring it to the store with no SIM? Do ATT activated iPhones say No Sim Inserted like mine will?

Should i keep the phone unactivated? In this case there is no way to show the problem.

Is there any way I can arrange a repair online without giving them my phone number?

    Hi people...

    thanks for the info ...

    2 things..

    1. if i upgrade my imeis will not match ? if so it doesnt matter if the only way to see that is from the i - info button on screen as my screen is not working so cant touch the i button ...

    2. are you guys sure apple doesnthave the ability to connect to a mac and find out if your running 3rd party software or had your iphonr unlocked.

if thats the case then i should be fine...

i thinking of just taking it in with my own att sim that i activated on it and showing them problem... shouldnt arouse too much suspicion.

    I await your further comments..

    thanks in advance

    JJ

ok .. i would love to restore back to standard.. and flash the baseband so there is no trace !!

    BUT

i cant access the touchscreen and as a part of the restore process i have to use the screen and press an icon... which i cant because my screen doesnt respond..

I think im just going to try my luck at the apple store...

hopefully they dont have a diagnostic pc that tells them its been unlocked as its a HARDWARE fault for sure !!

    will let you guys know...

and if anyone has any help or info to offer .. i look forward to it

    thanks again guys and gals...

    JJ
