That's probably because you need to install the BSD Subsystem v1.5. You can do that via iBrickr Application list.
░▒▓█ Working iPhone v1.1.3
░▒▓█ Call In/Out ► Yes/Yes
░▒▓█ SMS In/Out ► Yes/Yes
░▒▓█ WiFi/EDGE ► Yes
░▒▓█ YouTube App ► Yes
░▒▓█ Voicemail ► Yes
░▒▓█ [MOD] iVolume v2.0 beta ► Yes

Would this virgin state restore be a solution to a 1.1.1 upgrade?

No, the listed process is not able to downgrade the modem firmware to 03.14.08_G that is in version 1.0.2.

First an explanation. Virginizing your phone means two things. First, flashing the baseband (modem) to a virgin state. Most unlocking procedures modify the baseband by writing code to it. The reason we flash the baseband is that If you only do a restore via itunes (to the same version of the firmware), your baseband software is not updated. If you do not flash the baseband you may have problems with these instructions or in the future. Second, a complete restore to the current firmware via Itunes. This procedure will relock your phone and ensure you have clean firmware as if the phone just came out of the box.

I've tried typing the required lines in the terminal on the phone again & now I get 'No such file or directory nothing found to unload'

To add to your details, from what I gather, flashing the baseband restores the firmware, but there is another area of storage (seczone?) that is not updated. This area is related to the unlock process, and there seems to be two distinct states you may be in after an unlock. I have seen firsthand that flashing the baseband after running anySim relocks the phone, and your imei is reported as 0049... Others have reported with ipsf that flashing the baseband does not relock. So, the "virginizing" process restores the phone to a factory state "mostly." I just want to make sure I have this right, and if my understanding is slightly off, or way off, I appreciate any clarification (since there are a number of threads seeking the same clarification).
This is regarding the 03.14.08_G/1.0.2 firmware, and does not apply to 4xxx/1.1.1.

Regarding method to flash baseband, find and download putty to your pc, use is as a client to log into your iphone's SSH. On your PC, run putty, on your iphone find the IP address of the phone at Setting>general>network, at PC put in the IP address of the phone, User ID root, passwork: dottie.. then you can run the commands there.. much easier to type on a PC

You can upgrade to 1.1.1 using these steps... Where did you get that information from?
