Why is he hiding the back of the iphone? What i think is that the iphone is the old version and not the 3G...

There is a way to unlock the 3G iphone using a SIM adapter similar to Turbo SIM the one used to unlock BL4.6 when software unlock was not possible.

However the software unlock for the iphone 3G seems to be more difficult than everybody think and may take longer, check out this article:
