I have no idea how they were unlocked but nonetheless I want to upgrade and keep using my mobile carriers. I don't know anything about terminology or much about iPhones other than using it as I have it but I am very interested in learning so please help me. How do I go about doing this? Can anyone show me the ways to get it to 1.1.4, i.e. what software to use; if I should upgrade from 3.14.08_G to do all this; should I upgrade from iTunes and then use iPlus/ziphone etc. A little explanation would go a long way for me.
Thank You
There are stickies regarding iPlus. Of course, the alternate is Ziphone (which I used). If you are totally new, take your time and review your options. There is a new one iLiberty out. Also, there are nuances if you use a MAC or Windows. Search on 1.0.2 and you should find someone that updated their iPhone to 1.1.3/4.

Thank You for the assist. I love this forum and have found tons of info and I ended up using ZiPhone 2.6 on my Macbook to refurbish and then used iTunes to restore to 1.1.4 then back to ZiPhone to Activate, Jailbreak and Unlock and everything was like butter. I did both my iPhones this way but on one of them the Installer doesn't update, even when I check update, it stays at 3.0 on the 2nd iPhone it updated on its own to 3.1. And because of the Installer not updating I can't get either new or old Summerboard to install so I can use custom themes - it just times out while downloading the summerboard packages both new and old. I installed Summerboard and use Custom themes on the 2nd iPhone where Installer updated without a hitch. Can I update Installer without having to redo the ZiPhone method again?

Will upgrading my firmware from 1.0.2 to 1.1.4 erase all my contacts, notes, photos, music, and calendar entries?

Upgrading will keep your settings and other content, but the instructions are to restore, and everything will be erased; unless you back it up in iTunes. Better yet, get TouchCopy (for PC) and backup all your content beforehand.

http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33741 From reading your recommended thread it sounds like it is possible to upgrade to 1.1.4 using iplus without erasing all my data, but restoring might be better? I dont want to pay for TouchCopy if I don't need to.

I can just give my personal guess and last experience. When I updated my iphone from FW 1.1.1 to 1.1.3 I used Ziphone 2.3, and I "upgraded"; instead of restoring. All my settings, photos, and other content were still there untouched, and everything works fine. However, my iPhone was clean without any apps. If you decide to try to upgrade, make sure all apps from the installer are deleted, including the installer. This is important because some of the apps may not be compatible with the new FW=iBrick. Remember, the instructions say restore, not upgrade. It's your call.
TouchCopy is a wise investment.
PS. When you restore I believe you will need to tell iTunes that's it's a new phone, and I am almost sure that iTunes will still restore your contacts and photos from a backup that you made previously in iTunes.

Will this work with a hardware unlocked 1.0.2
Thx Mike
