Default Internet/data possible for (*prepay*) "T-Mobile To Go"

    Hi -

I've seen several threads about enabling internet access over T-Mobile "Total Internet" and "T-zones" plans, but nothing with details about their "To Go" plan.

According to T-mobile's web page, the "To Go" plan includes T-zones:

("t-zones (free shopping for HiFi Ringers, MegaTones®, wallpapers, and more)")

Since it's a pre-paid plan, I don't think there's any way I can add a feature like a $5.99/month or $19.99/month data plan (I don't get a monthly bill, so there's no way for them to bill me).

Is there any way to make use of the included "t-zones"? Even if I can't use it for browsing all of the web (if it limits me to a 'walled garden' of special T-mobile sites), that would be better than nothing.

I've tried setting the APN to "wap.voicestream.com" and username/password to nothing. I typed the magic key sequence in the dialpad to see what IP address I received from the carrier - I got "0.0.0.0" (so, they never gave me an IP).

If anyone has had success with internet/data on a pre-pay T-mobile plan, please post details (or a link to a thread with details).

BTW: When I got my T-mobile SIM (from a T-mobile store), I purchased "SIM card only" (so, it's not a SIM removed from an already-working T-mobile To Go phone - it's just the raw SIM card).

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!

    - Paulb

try setting up your proxy by editing your preferences.plist file and proxy.pac.

    hey

i used to have a prepaid tmobile plan a couple years ago, just moved to nyc and didnt know if i was gonna stay in the US, so i didn't want to comit to a contract.. anyways..

the prepaid had free tzones. or i think it did. when i upgraded my number to a contract, i noticed that the tzones stopped working, but i was using a cheapo phone and all i could do was check the sports scores and so on.

i was thinking this the other day, so maybe buy the cheapest prepaid card, and try it?

You can get T-Zones working on T-Mobile To Go (Prepaid) but it's pretty much useless. It just lets you see your account balance but it doesn't really format correctly in Safari nor can you add minutes to your account because it seems like the website doesn't properly load.

If you really want it, edit the perferences.plist and it will work but it's very limited.

Yep - I bought a T-Mobile To Go plan and (because of horrible wording on their website) thought that T-Zones would let me access the net. I did the whole proxy.pac thing and all I can access is wap.myvoicestream.com. The WAP sites it links to do not even render correctly. Totally useless.

I called T-Mobile and asked to add the $5.99 internet plan, but the lady seemed confused by my request and said that T-Zones already came with all To-Go Plans. (I'm not sure you can add this monthly package to a To-Go plan anyway). I may try calling again and see what kind of tech support guy I get. If anyone has any success getting full fledged EDGE working on their To-Go plan - please describe the process.

First - please double check the proxy settings in proxy.pac - they need to point to: 216.155.165.50:8080 There are a couple of wiki's that have this set incorrectly (to "10.0.0.0").. Next - recheck that you put the code in the correct area in the preferences.plist file... Finally - recheck your EDGE settings...

Turn off your phone - restart...

Next - dial into your voice mail - *and change your PIN to the last 4 digits of your T-mobile Phone number*. Save that PIN, for now..

    Open T-zones...

Close T-zones - and change your voicemail PIN to whatever you want..

(Edited to also add - no, you can not get T-MobileWeb ($5.99) on their "To Go" plans.. It requires a contract plan, or so I'm told.)
