    Talking iNdependence Unlock...

Hi guys, if I have a 1.1.1 do I only need independence to unlock it? Can I use it with 1.1.1 or do I need to downgrade?

You can use the program to finish all you need for iPhone 1.1.1 activation. And than you can put anySIM in the iPhone 1.1.1 to unlock all the functions completely.

I don't think so, since you first need to jailbreak your 1.1.1 phone, and that requires (I believe) doing a downgrade to 1.0.2. (To jailbreak a 1.1.1 phone, certain preparations need to be made while at a 1.0.2 state).

Furthermore, iNdependence doesn't unlock your phone -- it just guides you through jailbreaking and activating it. You would need another program to handle the unlock itself.

Here is a good reference guide, in my opinion: http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11776

I just said iNdependence will do activation. It does not unlock the iPhone for sure.

Just follow the iNdependence and let it goes from 1.1.1 > 1.0.2 than go back to 1.1.1.

eddy: your post popped in while I was still typing my reply to the original post, so I wasn't responding to you in any way. I fully agree with your comments!

To jailbreak a 1.1.1 phone, you have to go back to 1.0.2. Fire up iNdependence and read their instructions (contained in the Help menu of the program itself). The 1.1.1 jailbreaking process relies on doing a few things at 1.0.2 that set-up the phone so we can access it after the 1.1.1 upgrade.

(In fact, if you go through the original tutorials and read me's there is an explanation of what is being done at 1.0.2 and why they are doing it, and it's really quite sublime and brilliant. It shows why, in this cat-and-mouse game, it is mouse 2, cat 0).
