Default IMPORTANT: Check Bootloader Version on USA week 43+ phones

    Okay, this is really important.

The EU phones are being shipped with bootloader: BOOTLOADER_VERSION:4.6_M3S2

    See thread for details:
    http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15326

We know updating an exiting USA phone with 1.1.2 does not update the bootloader but the BIG question is, has anyone purchased an Out of The Box 1.1.2 USA phone yet?

If so, please check the bootloader version by:

    Shutting down CommCenter with:

    launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
    bbupdater -v

Identify the week number of the phone from the 4&5 digits of the Serial Number, e.g. 7T7|43|111WH8
the 43 is the week number.

Report you findings like the next msg:

    BOOTLOADER_VERSION:4.6_M3S2

    WEEK NUMBER: 43

This is just an example of my UK phone purchased for testing. We know all EU phones will have the new bootloader, but will they start shipping the in the USA with this boot loader too????

I makes me wonder if this will have an impact on IPSF unlocking scheme.

Hell yeah, I think it will hose IPSF as Geohot predicted if Apple changed the bootloader.

We all thought the bootloader would be updated in the software updates, so when we all flew into 1.1.2 making progress and noticed the bootloader was still 3.9, everything was looking dandy.

It wasn't until I went out and purchased a UK phone that I found the bootloader is not being updated in the software updates but it has been updated in the newly manufactured CommBoards :-(

I am pretty sure this will follow through on new USA handsets, hence this thread, unless the only reason they changed the bootloader was due to something neccessary for the EU GSM Networks (but I doubt that!).

Agree. I can't see a EU reason for the update.

This is good and bad: Old IPSF users will be glad that their phones will not brick at this time. But, it can be the end of new IPSF.

Until the tools (bbupdater, nordumper, iUnlock, ierase, etc) get updated to the new baseband, if the US phones start comming with the new baseband, then there will be another period without unlockable phones.

This may not help but i bought a week 43 phone in the us which has 1.1.1 on it and i unlocked it fine using independence to downgrade then upgrade, then use anysim 1,1

I dont have the phone now - but that would suggest i had the old bootloader version even at week 43

    I don't know the week now.EDIT: Checked weeks 41 & 42. Sorry.
But last wednesday (7th November) got 2 iphones on Apple Store 5th Avenue (New York) and I unlocked them following "REALLY ULTIMATE GUIDE" without a problem.
    Of course they were 1.1.1

    Thanks for the info.

The UK phones are shipping from week 43 batch T (e.g. 7T743xxxWH8)

I think USA phones week 44 onwards will be where we need to start taking interest (e.g. 7x744xxxWH8)

Or at least a USA phone that has come pre-loaded with 1.1.2 to start with.

I can confirm that I have successfully unlocked a couple of week 44 phones using Jailbreakme.com/Anysim1.1 just 2 days ago.
