Hello all.
I bought my iphone like a month ago. i bought it already unlocked (with means i have no clue what method was used to unlock it) and i'm on the way to do the first restore-update.
I was reading a LOT, so i think i'm ready to try it. (yep., i'm a n00b). I still learned that the other app (ziphone) can destroy my iphone.
My iphone info is:
Version: 1.1.4 (4A102)
modem firmware: 04.04.05_G
Here's my point. It'll be easy to unlock, active and jailbrake it with iliberty ?
I mean, do i need do something on my iphone (instead backup my things, i know i'll lst everything) like check bootloader or something or i can try it asap ??
thx a lot guys !![]()
Try to find out a bit more about the history of your iPhone. Your saying the iPhone is unlocked already by the pre-owner, you probably have en app called Installer on the iPhone. Start it, goto "Sources", hit "Edit" on top, then "Add". Add the source
http://www.trejan.com/irepo
then refresh. Goto "Install" then (on the bottom) and hit "All Packages". Look for an application called Hardware Info and install it. Leave Installer then and start Hardware Info (its called HWInfo on the iPhone).
Right on top at "Device" write down the first 5 digits/characters of "Serial Number" and the first six digits of "WiFi". Scroll down to "Baseband" then and write down "Bootloader Version".
Explanation: All iPhones can be at Version: 1.1.4 (4A102) with modem firmware 04.04.05_G (via iTunes upgrade) and be unlocked with the help of different unlock methods.
Some have Bootloader Version 3.9, some 4.6. All iPhones up to and including OOTB 1.1.1 came with bootloader 3.9, starting with OOTB 1.1.2 they had 4.6.
The serial number can tell you the production week. Up til week 43 from last year (as far as I remember) you can be pretty sure it came with bootloader 3.9. The unlocking tools i know do not touch original bootloader 3.9. Some downgrade OOTB 4.6 bootloaders to 3.9 or 3.9 fakeblank. If you report back the three values, we probably can give you a hint about the history of your iPhone.
You are absolutely right not to use ZiPhone, the forum is full of users having a semi-brick or fubar iPhone after using ZiPhone. With Hardawre Info check the value of WiFi as i said.
If it starts with 00:1C:B3.... it's probably not touched by ZiPhone before (Apples Wi-Fi and Bluetooth MAC addresses start with it). If it starts with "00:5a:49..." ZiPhone was involved.
Why all that investigation? If any unlock but ZiPhone was used before, I would leave the iPhone as it is and not change a running system.
best

WiFi: 00:1F:F3
Bootloader Version: 3.9_M3S2
One more time i really really apreciate all your reply and help.
Sorry about my english. Now with that info, could u gimme some more info about what can i and what i can't do here ??
Thx![]()
OK, that looks good so far. Your iPhone is produced in week 18 of this year, I have lost track if this was 1.1.3 or already 1.1.4, anyway. Your Wi-fi address has no indication of ZiPhone, thats even better. It has been unlocked with a method that downgraded the bootloader from original version 4.6 to 3.9.
All looking good with your iPhone. There are two directions (well three) you can follow now - as usual in life.
If you want it unlocked at 1.1.4 with the original bootloader you can use iLiberty, I wrote up a turorial here
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43569
The step where BootNeuter comes into action, you could set "Version" to 4.6 and would get back the original bootloader.
Another safe way would be to use Pwnage. There is a FAQ and one sticky about the Windows version aswell in the Pwnage section. Would be another way to get your bootloader back.
Third one: Stay with your unlocked iPhone. 3.9 is working with your iPhone, there is no backdraft. As we all know, on July 11th firmware 2.0 will pop up. There is an interesting thread here in the forum at
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/show...t=43557&page=2
You should read post# 13 from Dev Team member planetbeing. "In essence: First generation iPhone users who want to upgrade to firmware 2.0: You're still golden, of course."
So you could just wait.
If you want have action now, first thing would be to DFU restore to 1.1.4. This procedure will give you a locked 1.1.4 iphone, clean and ready to be unlocked with iLiberty or Pwnage. BTW iLiberty can bring your iPhone in DFU mode (special mode for firmware upgrade), iTunes then will do the upgrade.
hope that helps

OK volkspost. Again, thx for the very quickly reply. :p
Here is my point, yes, i want wait for the 2.0 firmware. (i'll wait). I just want learn how to unlock, just in case, when 2.0 comes out, or even if i get a problem with any app or something (), ad wanna do a restore.
About the two (three) ways, i read almost every tutorial and topics here in last week. My doubt is:
1- The bootloader. I mean, it's better run the latest 4.6 or leave 3.9 running fine as is it ?? I mean, there's a lot of diference, for daily user, between 4.6 or 3.9 bootloader ? If i upgrade to 4.6 i'll "feel" any better on iphone's usage ? Resuming, what's the advantage in using bootloader 4.6 ?
2- I really enjoyed your tutorial with iLiberty+ for neewbies hehehe, very impressive and easy, at last reading it, seems isn't that hard to do. What DO YOU recomend, in case i do a restore on my phone, and considering i'm totally noob, should i try iLiberty+ or Pwnage ?
3- This is one of our main worrie. I was reading, ppl's getting problems with low signal, and tings like that after a restore. If i really do the restore, after i unlock it and jailbreak, i have to install any patch for signal metter ? i mean, of course if i want an brazilian keyboard or something like that, i know what i have to install. But just about the signal strenght, should i check for some fix, or that ppl's having problems are doing some mistake ??
4- Just to be sure, if i'll unlock it using iLiberty+, the iphone must be running on DFU mode to do the steps correct ?
Well, one more time, sorry about my LOOONG reply, as i said before, i just wanna be 100% sure in what i'm doing, and of course i don't wanna bricky my iphone.
Thx again for your time and help volkspost
You wont feel a difference on using bootloader 3.9, no other otions or so. One of my test iPhones is an OOTB 1.1.2, it has bootloader 3.9 since a while, nor problems, nor drop backs - no advantage or disadvantage. Plus with the help of BootNeuter you can change it, if you feel you have to ;-)
Both pwnage and iLiberty are easy to do. Both products are known to not harm your iphone, but: any playing around with baseband means a bit of risk. If one does not want that, you'd have to get AT&T-customer ;-). Pwnage and iliberty are fine. Just read both the tutorial on iLiberty and the Pwnage FAQ, you'll find out which one is "yours". One general advice: Never push things or rush. Always take your time, and you will be fine.
I dont know any issues with the signal as long as ZiPhone is not involved. Some ZiPhone users dont even have a signal at all, not even an iPod. So as long as you stay away from ziPhone you'll be ok.
Well DFU mode makes sure, all the data gets wiped out. It's easy to get into either manually or even easier via iLiberty. both versions for Mac and Windows have a butto (Windows) or Menu item (Mac9 you select and the iPhone is in DFU mode. You quit iLiberty then, fire up iTunes and hit "Restore". I would suggest you download apples fw 1.1.4, a link is here
http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22056
then in iTunes hold Shift (Windows) or Option (Mac) while hitting "Resore" in iTunes. A dialog pops up then and lets you choose the downloaded firmware.
happy hacking
