If you have a formerly software unlocked FW 1.1.1 updated bricked/locked phone, READ!
I want to save you some trouble and time, so please READ this CAREFULLY and don't ask a thousand questions afterwards because I really think it explains everything. If you didn't understand, READ AGAIN until you do!
This information is ONLY valid for those iPhone users who software unlocked their iPhone before they updated to FW 1.1.1 and who succeeded in downgrading to FW 1.0.2, re-enabling activation/jailbreak/SSH install/etc. but are still stuck with the baseband modem firmware from FW 1.1.1!
1. save your time and don't try to downgrade the baseband modem fw from 04.01.13_G using the currently available instructions using bbupdater and the .fls and .eep files. It won't work, you can try as much as you want, you still end up with a .fls download verification error. Yes, I tried DOZENDS of variants of this method, involving lockdownd, with and without SIM, etc. ect. ect. Don't waste your time, it doesn't work this way.
2. if you previously had a TurboSIM configured (before you applied the software unlock), it won't work anymore. Don't waste your time trying it, your TurboSIM is very likely OK, not broken, it just doesn't work since the software unlock and updated FW 1.1.1 messed up things.
3. if you have an official AT&T contract with official (former) activation of your iPhone, it still won't work with the AT&T SIM and you can't officially activate your phone again. Don't waste your time going to the nearest AT&T shop (like the iTunes message suggests), even a new SIM won't work as long as the baseband modem fw is still the one from FW 1.1.1.
Now the good news: since, thanks to Kmac, we are able to activate/jailbreak software unlock bricked phones (updated to FW 1.1.1) again, it is only a matter of time until a solution for the baseband fw downgrade will be available. So PLEASE be patient and don't ask the same stuff over and over again. Follow the discussion very closely and remember that every couple of hours, there is some new information available and you need to READ this new stuff FIRST before starting to ask questions again. Thanks.

I still read on dev wiki, that somebody was able to erase the bb firmware then do a normal update with itunes to whatever firmware they wanted. this was before everbody confirmed the downgrade. I think this would be the way to go but have no idea who it was or if you can erase the firmware. somebody that can should put this idea to the dev team as it would solve alot of problems for everbody if it works.

Here I read:
If you used an *SIM (Super, Turbo, Hyper ...) to unlock without patching the baseband firmware, then everything is reported to work fine.
Does It work only if you have never software unlocked your iphones?

im just hoping that someone comes up with a solution soon....i'm really desperate lol I have a service iPhone here that I have yet to use (I'm gonna hope someone comes up with a solution by tuesday) and I don't want to take the risk yet and send my iPhone to apple with a chance that they might not fix or replace my phone (even though when it's flashed to 1.1.1 it still shows my original IMEI, just giving me the incorrect sim thing). YOU GOTTA GIVE HUGE PROPS TO THOSE WHO ARE FINDING OUT WAYS TO MAKE THIS WORK!! ITS NOT FAIR TO THOSE WHO PAID GOOD MONEY FOR THIS PHONE AND WERE NOTIFIED JUST A WEEK IN ADVANCE OF THE UPDATE THAT APPLE CANNOT HELP THEM IF THEY DID THINGS TO THEIR PHONE. IT WOULD BE NICE IF APPLE COULD HELP OTHERS RESTORE THE PHONE AND ERASE EVERYTHING THAT WAS 3RD PARTY AND LET THOSE WHO WANT TO UPGRADE TO 1.1.1 UPGRADE THEIR PHONE. FIGHT THE SYSTEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...also it isn't fair to those who are under contract to at&t and now have no communications for a cell phone. WTF! lol

This is why I wrote this little "time saver" but apparently I need to explain every single word before someone understands. C'mon guys, I know that we're living in a fast world but is it really that difficult to READ, CONCENTRATE on what you read and use your brain? Sorry for being that blunt but I have a short night behind me and although there are VERY GOOD threads explaining what is possible and what not, people are still keeping asking the same questions over and over again.

sorry but I have only read one post stating that a baseband downgrade worked at that was pspsully and in his next post he said he had four other fresh phones that would not allow the baseband to be downgraded. Sorry but one confirmation and 50 people claiming that they can't downgrade the baseband even on fresh 1.1.1 bought phones leaves a little doubt in my mind. Even dev wiki only has two confirmations of a bb downgrade using the virgin restore method, and anyone can post lies on here or there.
Did you by chance have more confirmations that the bb downgrade works or a you referring to these two claims?

A bb downgrade from a fresh/virgin state FW 1.1.1 iPhone should be possible, there have been confirmed downgrades. Again: this only works with iPhones which had NEVER a software unlock applied before. If the bb downgrade using the bbupdater/.fls/.eep files didn't work, you need to try again and again. Also make sure that you're using the right bb update files because there are two different versions available.
First of course you need to downgrade FW 1.1.1 to 1.0.2, this works perfectly, even on formerly software unlocked iPhones. Nobody should have problems to downgrade the iPhone FW from 1.1.1 to 1.0.2, nobody should have problems to install apptap, BSD, OpenSSH, etc. If somebody has problems with that, he/she didn't follow the instructions precisely. It is also weird that although there is a CONFIRMED method to downgrade, people are still trying "alternative" ways, using different applications, etc.
After I downgraded from FW 1.1.1, I used the latest INdepedence version (OSX) to jailbreak and activate my iPhone. I also installed Apptap, BSD, OpenSSH, Term-vt100 using the Installer.app. It worked like a charm, just the bb fw can't be downgraded but I hope a solution for this problem will be found soon.

Yes, apparently the bb downgrade works ONLY if you never EVER have software unlocked your iPhone. It doesn't matter if you did a fresh 1.0.2 recovery before updating to FW 1.1.1. IF your iPhone had a software unlock applied in the past, it won't downgrade the bb fw with the currently known downgrade methods.
