[Idea] [2.0 Unlock] Modifying ipsw ?
Just got an idea on getting the unlocked 2.0 firmware on the iPhone. Dont know if it will work...
If we take 2 ipsw files of 2.0 Beta firmware (Original and PWNED) and see the patched or modified files, then we can convert the 2.0 final ipsw to zip and replace the patched files and convert it back to ipsw and Restore the image using iTunes...
Will it work..... ?

Why do you think we need PWnageTool? IT's because it has to deal with files in the new IMG3 format (Introduced with Beta 5 which is why the original stopped working). It's also not as simple as just unzipping because the DMG is in a special filesystem.
Don't you think this has been thought of... Most people wouldn't have the first clue about what to patch anyway.

Well, I guess you are right. I have waited for so many days... So, maybe some more time.......

Thanks god - at least one guy coming up with an idea (may it be good or not). Despite appreciating the hard days of the Dev Team (i guess the guys really show strong nerves when I'm reading through all these treads) i have to admit I'm missing the old days somehow. Some guys of you may remember nights sitting somewhere locked up just trying to get that thing working and sharing your experience here in the board. Even everybody will use the final solution which will come up for sure for everybody FREE by these amazing guys, I also like people just trying around well knowing that really bricking an iPhone must go together with extreme stupidity, like running out of battery while downgrading the bootloader or so.
So here is where I'm standing on my test phone: BB is still unlocked after several up- and downgrades, but I'm stuck on the activation screen. Attempts to write files via USB failed even in recovery mode, looks like something in the protocol changed (i remember reading about that in some blog ^^). Ramdisk decryption also does not work the old fashioned way. BUT: because the BB was unlocked BEFORE upgrade and the settings remain, we got access to Safari. So how about jailbreaking like we did at 1.1.1?
Inputs welcome.

any idea welcome

Well, use the StoreActivationMode in iTunes 7.7
Here's how to do it on a Mac:

hmmm... sounds interesting. But I guess you'll need a supported SIM installed for activation?

Well, thats the work of a TurboSIM, it will emulate the current SIM as an AT&T SIM.
