iBrick 1.1.1 back to iPhone 1.0.2
I have been using an unlocked iPhone on 02 pay as you go for a month now. I used the iUnlock hack to do this.
I had to restore the iphone yesterday and ended up with Firmware 1.1.1 and the upgraded baseband. So pretty much bricked the phone. I followed all the advice offered on the net on downgrading the firmware which was the easy part. However I still had the newer 04.01.13_G Modem Firmware - no good for making calls!
I followed advice here to downgrade baseband but made a mess of it halfway through and ended up with a phone with no modem firmware. No cell network or wifi or bluetooth. I basically got stuck where it waits for ages flashing the new firmware.
I then did the option-upgrade in iTunes using the 1.0.2 firmware which restored the firmware and baseband to version 1.0.2 and 03.14.08_G respectively. I then did all the iNdependance and Apptap bits and pieces with a final iUnlock and I am back with a working iPhone that connects to my O2 pay as you go service. Just like nothing ever happened.
So in summary, I basically deleted the firmware and modem firmware and then let iTunes do the restore of everything for me. I wouldn't use this as a fail safe method as there were a few hiccups along the way. But it worked well for me.

Some help as to what you did would be appreciated. I got stuck during the process and now have no wifi so I can't SSH back to the iPhone. What steps did you take to get the phone back?

Once I got to the point where I had no wireless access, I did an option-restore from iTunes. This type of restore allows you to downgrade your firmware. See this post for instructions and google to find various other pages of help on this procedure. Once you have the 1.0.2 firmware installed, iTunes should also have restored your modem firmware to 03.14.08G. Check for this in the about section on your iPhone.
Once you get to this point you can then run the latest iNdependence and Apptap installers to get back into your phone.
