Question I am new to the iPhone community, how should I get started?

I didn't post this on "general section" because I want to jailbreak/unlock my iphone.

I have been hearing about the term "virginize" a lot, and I thought I knew what it meant, but then now i'm confused.

Does it mean a iPhone straight out of box, not activated with any carrier yet? Or, a phone activated with its default service provider (ie. ATT in the US), but with no other actions taken is considered a virgin phone too?

Because of this confusion, I dunno where I should get started. I'll explain my situation here:

    1. I had a razor V3 on AT&T service.
    2. I bought an iPhone recently.
    3. I swapped my existing SIM card to the new iPhone i bought, hoping that I could still access all the info i stored on it, so I don't need to type in phone numbers again.
    4. After I activated the phone, all the data in my SIM was gone, but I did have ATT working on iPhone.

Simply put, I have an iPhone activated with an old AT&T SIM card (not the one come with iPhone), and I do not know where to go for the next step.

also, I'm using Windows Vista, so please let me know which guide i should follow.

    Thanks in advance.

Anyway for a started, what r yuo trying to do with ur iphone, that is are you trying to use abroad with another carrier? if not then you dont need to do anything....For the you contacts, you will have to get ur contacts on the SiM to sync with Outlook. In that way when u sync with itune, then all contact should be on the iphone.......

No, you do NOT need to reset your baseband. You can start with this thread:
    http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=12237

Start at Step 3 and you will be fine....

As for your contacts, etc... No, those will not be ported over from your Razor.

    First, thanks for the reply.

I know it won't port my contact over from razor since I'm already using iPhone right now with ATT (I activated it the official way).

So does this mean my iPhone is virginized or does it needs to be swap a sim and convert back to the pre-activation mode to be virginized?

This is my actual question because as of right now nobody mentioned anything about what people having ATT service should do, all I know is "when it's right out of box, it's called virgin phone", but then "right out of box" would mean it's not activated yet.

Plus there's a note saying "you cannot unlock with iphone's original SIM". I did not use it's original SIM card to activate my phone (I used the one I had in the hope that contacts can be leave intact). Does this SIM considered the same as the original SIM card? Or there's something new on that SIM card came with iPhone so I should be okay with the working SIM card on my iPhone?

YOu have a virgin iphone. a virgin iphone is an iphone thats baseband has never been modified. You didnt say what firmware your on, but you should put in the sim that came with the iphone, then restore to 1.1.1. you will be at the activation screen where you can follow any of the numerous tutorials, http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=12237 , i prefer this one. You would start at step 3 because you have a virgin iphone. Follow this guide to the T and you will have a 1.1.1 activated, jail broken, unlocked iphone.

Too bad you already signed the new 2 year contract

as for porting numbers, if you are familiar w/ torrents u can download a program called Motorola Phone Tools that will upload all your contact info, pics, etc. to your computer where you can then use them in Microsoft outlook to sync them to your Iphone. I had a KRZR before and did just that, it even keeps your pic ID's you had saved for your contacts

Sync your razr on windows. You should be able to export your contact in csv, vcf or xml form. Import that into outlook and then sync with iTunes. And you're done!
