Default Hypothetically speaking, can and will this happen?

I read that there will be factory unlocked iphones available in France. I am curious as to now with a factory unlocked iphone available, will it be possible to somehow use them to create a program that reflashes our current locked iphones and make our locked iphones factory unlocked as well? I ask this cause, if this is possible, it offers a significant advantage over current unlocking methods. This being our current iphones can be updated in the future without fear of being bricked again. If this is a unrealistic question, please say so and I apologize. Thanks.
