How virginized, updated, and unlocked.. newbie friendly
How I virginized, upgraded to FW 1.1.1 and unlocked my iPhone that was on FW 1.0.2 unlocked with anySim 1.0
wifi is required for step 4 below, to jailbreak without typing code
really user friendly imho
1. Thanks to BigBoss for this really easy virginizer
do what this page says http://360patches.com/virginize.html
2. then go to http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=14384
skip the section called "Virginize iPhone - 1.0.2 iPhone unlocked from AnySim 1.0 or 1.0.1"
3. start with the section "Restore virgin iPhone to firmware 1.1.1"
4. then also do the steps in the section that follows, titled "Jailbreak and Activate iPhone Firmware 1.1.1"
5. and continue with "Unlock iPhone with AnySim 1.1"
big thank you to everyone here, especially dtube for holding my hand in this question thread
update.. I solved my stuck in recovery mode problem by using iNdependence, after first copying it out of the virtual disk into my hard drive. I was then able to use jailbreakme.com and anysim 1.1 successfully.
moral of the story.. dont restore from backup if the backup was of a phone in 1.0.2 that had extra applications installed in springboard
some of my preferences got messed up by those additional games, and when I synced in 1.1.1, it got stuck in recovery mode..

actually, sorry to say, I spoke too soon
after my phone was unlocked, in itunes I restored from backup...
then I synced
then I lost phone service, and lost wifi, and lost edge
currently I have a non functional phone
Im trying for the 3rd time to get it restored.. it keeps failing.. error 2 and error 1011
shoulda left good enuf alone

dude ...what the hell happened ?
Try to go all the way back to 1.0.2 with the 4.02.xx baseband. Unlock while running 1.0.2 then oktoprep then update 1.1.2 -
Don't do the airplane stuff. Did you use that on the previous upgrade ?
thanks for hanging in with me
no I did not do any airplane
I was working virgin 1.0.2 unlocked with anySim 1.1
when I upgraded to FW 1.1.1 and jailbroke, then unlocked with anySim 1.1 my Tmobile phone was working.
things seemed to have gone bad after I did either the restore from backup or sync in iTunes
then I lost tmobile, lost edge, lost wifi, and now, cannot downgrade to 1.0.2.. I get error 1
and cannot restore to 1.1.1, I get error 1011
btw, Im trying to do the FW 1.1.1 restore in iTunes while I have the original iPhone ATT Sim installed.. afaik that is the right way.. no?
sorry ... i was thinking that you were doing 1.1.2 upgrade.
You never upgrade to 1.1.2 right? IF so, Forget what I said before.
Put the phone in DFU mode and restore 1.1.1
correct, Im not doing 1.1.2, just 1.1.1
currently the phone displays the itunes cd image and the iPhone cable image.. meaning.. connect to iTunes
I cannot use iNdependence, to get to DFU mode bacause that choice is not available.
Independence says it is connected to an iPhone in recovery mode.
I cant get itunes to downgrade iphone to 1.0.2 gives error 1
I cant get itunes to update iphone to 1.1.1, gives error 1011
my last resort would be to upgrade to 1.1.2.. then try to downgrade..
what do you think?
time to go buy a new phone?
error 1011 is serious.
I've been reading up for you....
You don't need independence to get into DFU mode.
I don't have a MAC so I'm going to give it a shot.
- shut down phone
- Hold down power+home. When the apple appears, let go the power but keep holding the home until the disc+cable appear. this is is the DFU mode.
- launch your itunes
- plug in the phone
- itunes should detect that your phone is in DFU mode and prompt you to restore.
- here you want to hold the apple key and click on restore (i think that the key combination on the mac).
- select your iPhone1,1_1.1.1_3A109a_Restore.ipsw file (you should have this file downloaded prior to doing any of this).
Hopefully, this will do a restore for you.
Note: can you elaborate on what you did that caused the phone to go crazy like this. You said " things seemed to have gone bad after I did either the restore from backup or sync in iTunes". Can you be more specific.
ps: i'm going to sign off now. Hopefully someone else can chime in. If not, don't get despair ... hang in there

thanks for your help
> shut down phone
I cant shut down normally.. there is no shut down slider when I hold power
when I try to enter DFU as you say.. I still get error 1011
I dont think the phone is really in DFU.. I think its not really shutting down..
btw with a mac I hold the option key and click restore, then I choose the 1.1.1 file
as far as how I managed to get into this mess.. well.. I really dont recall anything unusual..
after upgrading to FW 1.1.1 and doing jailbreakme and anysim successfully, I connected my working unlocked 1.1.1 iphone with my Tmobile sim in it (is that my mistake?), to iTunes 7.4.2 on my mac
I ran the feature called restore from backup, which allowed me to choose my most recent prior sync file.. then I also did a sync, which loaded my photos and music
after that, I had no carrier on the top left of my screen, no edge, no wifi
so Ive been trying and trying and trying to restore, after removing the Tmobile sim, and reinserting the original ATT iphone sim, .. so far, I continue to get error 1011 at the end of the FW 1.1.1 restore process
I don't have any ideas for you at the moment. The main goal now is somehow get the phone to boot or accept a full restore. I'm trying to think if I ever encounter the "slide to power off" did not come up.
I tried this guide
2) Plug your phone into your PC, and as soon as the gray apple appears, press and hold both power and home buttons. Hold for exactly 10 seconds, then let go of just the power button.(If you look very closely, after about 7 seconds the screen will power down and pixelate, this is the lead in to the hidden restore state.) After about another 15 Seconds of holding down the Home button, itunes will find your iphone and say it needs to restore.
I tried this, and was able to get itunes to detect the phone while I held the home button. Actually it detects the phone in the first 3 seconds, but dismissing that dialogue after the phone screen goes black, while still holding the home button for another 15 seconds, makes itunes detect the phone again, even though the screen is off
I then did the option click to choose FW 1.1.1 for the first restore.. it ran until it failed with error 1011
I then did step 2 again, this time choosing FW 1.0.2, which fails with error 1012
There is a change in the phone screen after this.. it gives the yellow triangle message to plug into iTunes.. instead of the picture of a CD and a cable
However, the phone will not power off normally, there is no slider.. I just have to hold the power button for about 9 seconds.. to get the phone to turn off.
Sometimes it restarts, so then I have to hold both home and power for about 9 seconds to get the phone to turn off
when I turn the phone on again, it briefly shows the apple logo, then it goes to the gold triangle.. and that is where I am stuck
