How to Edit/Upload 1.1.1 System Files WITHOUT SSH
Is there anyway to edit files on a 1.1.1 iPhone without installing the BSD subsystem and SSH? Installing these makes my phone a little unstable, but I still need to change the phone number formats, appsupport, etc.
I really wish someone would make things like the the updated appsupport and other phone number format localizations available via installer.app
- so that installation of the BSD subsystem and SSH *was not* required.

Thanks, but I really would like to do this WITHOUT installing SSH...if possible. Sorry if I somehow didn't make that clear enough.

bsd subsystem and ssh ARE available via installer.app
though going about modifying appsupport and other stuff without a second device (a computer) is pretty impossible... kinda the same as doing open heart surgery on yourself

You're absolutely right, they are - I was trying to refer to the files I need to update but I didn't make that very clear. So I have edited my post so it is hopefully more understandable - sorry
I am just trying to replace some plist's on my phone basically without installing SSH.

Get Term-vt100 from Installer.app.
Make sure you have BSD toolkit.
And good luck using vi

Anyone who understands the comedy of my situation at this point please feel free to chime in and save my sanity and restore my faith in the value of this forum. over.

I do see and feel your pain.
but the sad truth remains - the whole hack/modify/unlock etc etc ordeal relies on a few community created core items, such as BSD subsystem. plus - appsupport is a core feature on an iPhone and to modify it on the go would certainly cause unexpected results.

I don't want to edit it live on the phone, I just want to upload it to the phone over a cable connection instead of SSH. I was under the impression that there were some software solutions for file browsing your iphone. I am on a mac but I have access to windows, so I can try anything.
I tried for example using something called iFuntastic, which has a file browser of some kind. But I couldn't get it to connect.
I thought someone else out there with 1.1.1 might have tried something that did work or could relate some experiences.

Putting a question mark in your post title will IMPROVE your chances.
Here's what you need, in google type and search iphonelist, or if you are lazy as hell, go to : http://code.google.com/p/iphonelist/
