In addition to being interested in unlocking 1.1.2 version iPhone, I also run a website which sells unlocking services for a wide range of handsets.

Essentially, what's required to unlock virtually every handset is the IMEI. Many networks maintain an in-house database of the so called 'unlock codes'. These unlock codes are IMEI specific and once the unlock code is inputted in the device, it SIM unlocks the device.

Apple 'may have' designed their system around the same lines with the 'meant to be unlock' phones for T-Mobile etc designed/programmed to accept an unlock code.

It's my hunch that there is a database of unlock codes for every 'meant to be unlocked' iPhone with obviously the unlock code being unique to specific IMEI.

so does that mean we can unlock or does it mean we are never going to be able to simply slap a code in and have a fully unlocked handset ? I've had my iPhone for just five days now and although I love it I am getting a bit worried that I'm never going to be able to unlock it. And then even if we could unlock , how easy is it going to be to maintain the unlock.

Like, how is the sdk going to affect jailbreak and any unlock etc.

I want to keep my iPhone but the thought of paying the stupid prices for the tarrifs ok offer in the uk makes my skin crawl.

for those who dont understand german:

it basically says that everytime you swap another simcard in you not only have to activate over itunes but you also have to do a full reset to be able to do this. so you will loose all data and need to sync again and all that BS

I bet they couldn't realise a better solution in the short time. Lets hope the german courts decision forces them (apple) to come up with a "real" and comfortable unlock solution.

We must raise some privacy concerns against Apple.

    According to this page:

    http://www.macnotes.de/2007/11/22/ip...ten-eindrucke/

You have to sync your iPhone with iTunes, after a few secconds the message "Your iPhone was succesfully unlocked" appears and you can switch Sim Cards WITHOUT re-activate!!!

    Dev-Team, this sounds interesting!
