Hide/Cloak hacked iPhone existance from Carrier (AT&T) : Possible?
I have a activated iPhone which I am using with my Cingular SIM card and my old plan. Everything is fine I can make/recieve calls and i switched to Media Max 200 and therefore have unlimited edge.
I logged onto my account today and in my cellphone it showed that I was using an iPhone. I of course panicked and changed it back to my SLVR and called support where I told them about how I found it weird that it showed an iPhone when I am using a SLVR and it is impossible I am using an iPhone since it is not available in my area. (My number is from Puerto Rico, which ATT im sure wants to charge more (read: rape) for the phone there, therefore it has not been released there, and you can actually not even -activate- the iPhone with a Puerto Rico number)
My question is this. Is there any way to hide the fact that I am using an iPhone and pretend I am using my SLVR? Something similar to a Mac Address clone for networking equipment or a User Agent change for browsers?
Some extra tidbit of info, the AT&T customer service person told me that they were planning on forcing those who appear with iPhones in the system to switch to the iPhone plans. Which I wont do. therefore my question. happy hacking!

The IMEI will give it away. You cant hide it buddy.

Any way to change it to my SLVR's then?

I don't think AT&T will care, because you are still using them and if you don't officially have an iphone then they don't have to pay apple any money. Apple can't check this so AT&T doesn't have to give money to apple.

contract renewal
You no longer have to renew your contract with ATT in order to make changes.
if you wait till 2008 you will no longer have to renew it

Yes you can change IMEI...but its very technical...
You need to dump your seczone, and decrypt 0x10 bytes at x0B00 offset. It will be BCD packed. You can change it and re-encrypt it. Then you need to use a changed loader to put it back on the phone.
Not for the faint of heart, but definitely doable ;-)

Would it perhaps be possible to make an IMEI spoofer?
-
a IMEI spoofer would be nice. But, since clipgrp pointed that out. I am definetly going to see if i can do that. Or wait until those changes come into effect in 2008. I am perfectly happy paying for the "iphone data plan" but since it is not available to me, and i would not get the "visual voice mail" I decided to not add time to my contract and just hack it instead. This has given me lots of options knowing this now. thank you all.
