Here's a simple question for everyone here but me...
I'm really shocked I have to ask this, but believe me I have searched for the answer high and low.
For a 1.1.1 iPhone right out of the box, how do I get past that first screen you get when you turn on the iPhone for the first time that says "Activate iPhone, Connect to iTunes", and without signing a contract with AT&T? (In other words, "fake activate"?)
I know that sounds like a newbie question, but I'm not a newbie. Yesterday, I jailbroke and unlocked a brand new 1.1.1 phone (without downgrading to 1.0.2) and got youtube working. But the only way I could figure out how to "fake activate" the phone was to sign a contract with AT&T and then turn around and cancel it right after. I don't want to do this every time. I also know that DVD Jon has a method, but hacktheiphone.com says it's now deprecated.
Thanks guys. I don't need to be baby stepped through this, but some type of guide would help. (I also know the answers to lots of other questions, if anyone needs help just PM me.)
EDIT: I'm on a PC.

To activate your 1.1.1 phone, I believe you will need someone's 1.0.2 lockdownd file.
You could then (1) backup your 1.1.1 lockdownd file to somewhere safe (/var/root might be a good place); (2) copy the 1.0.2 lockdownd file to your phone's /usr/libexec folder; (3) run a "killall lockdownd" command in ssh on the phone (which will cause the phone to start using the 1.0.2 lockdownd file; (4) use iASign to activate your non-ATT SIM; (5) then returning your 1.1.1 lockdownd file back to the /usr/libexec folder; and (6) running another "killall lockdownd" command to start using the 1.1.1 lockdownd file again.
This should work in theory -- but I have not tried it. Make sure you backup any files that you overwrite or replace!!!

I think you're talking about activating an unlocked phone to work with different SIMs. I'm talking about simply activating an iPhone right out of the box so I can actually turn it on and use it. There's no way I can access the lockdownd file you're talking about if I can't even get into the phone at all. All I can do is the "slide for emergency" to call 911 and that's the only function I have. Thanks for the quick response! I appreciate it.
