Which country are you working in?

Any for. lab would read the chips out directly.... you would never use the device itself... seriously what are you trying to do by opening such a thread?

Actually I do work for a lab and we don't have the chips. We do bit for bit imaging with
dcfldd or EnCase. We never get involved at the chip level unless we have to (Blackbox recovery) but that goes somewhere else.

Thanks for your suggestions, for those who want to doubt or belittle me Merry Christmas.

Of course it's legal as we are getting cases with Ipods touch and Iphones.

Changes are allowed if you know what it changed and can explain it in a court of law.
So, you can alter evidence (write to the iphone) and then use it in a court of law?

Laws in your country must be different than laws in mine...

Actually you don't alter the evidence you are adding the necessary imaging tools. This happens for example EnCase Enterprise puts an applet on a remote computer and lets you image it across the Network and this is allowed in Court. What is allowed is up to some Judge. Hopefully where the Itunes Syncs, contains the evidence and the only thing found on the iphone are deleted files (ie Screen Shots). We also get some CI cases and the requirements are not the same.

Paraban Cell phone seizure is also pondering this as I am. Maybe Apple is right till a development kit comes out were are limited to whats in the Itunes Sync folder.
