    ok , try this:

restart the computer, restart your iphone, leave the power and home button press for 10 seconds until the phone turns off and try to turn it on again with the power button only,
*open up itunes application (in your pc) CLOSE ITUNES + ITUNES HELPER. then run the latest appInstaller

    here is the link: http://www.nullriver.com/~zigzag/AppTappInstaller.zip

    that should do it,

i am having the same problem. The cable and the itunes logo after i restored to 1.1.1. I used iPhuc to get to the activation screen but I can't seem to jailbreak the phone. May i know how I can exit the restore mode?

    Default error 1, 1604

I was on an ambititious project to upgrade my unlocked 1.0.2 phone to 1.1.2...
    Following the http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dgzw9xs_0gfhxns , i started restroring to 1.1.2 ...
    1.1.2 updated comfortably ..
But when i tried RESTORING 1.0.2 , i get the "iphone could not be restrored : error 1 " after the extracting software progress ...
When tried RESTRORING to 1.1.2 , then I get the "error 1604"
and when i tried to RESTORE 1.1.1 , it gave "error 2003"

Is the phone bricked officially ?
I tried the method on the above posts but without any good result ...

    HELPPPPP

Did you make sure you were in DFU mode?
Hold Power/Menu for 10 secs, release power while still holding menu for further 10 seconds. (Phone will be black the entire time)
That should allow you to downgrade the software but not the baseband (as you would want if you plan to unlock 1.1.2)

Took me a couple of attempts to get it right and even messed up the baseband once. Restoreing to 1.1.2 and then downgrading again fixed that one for me but my guess is once you get DFU mode you should be fine (might need to use iBrickr to get booted/Jailbreak once restored to 1.0.2)

    Sproglet,
Thanks for the help..I timed the 10 second press.I could get to DFU then.

Just to help the others in those error screens ..
These are some of the errors i have got if you aren't in the DFU mode,
Error 1 : While trying to restore to 1.0.2 after the extracting software progress
Error 1604: While trying to restore to 1.1.2 after the extracting software progress
Error 2003 : While trying to restore to 1.1.1

These are the errors i have after the first and second step in http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dgzw9xs_0gfhxns
    Updating from 1.0.2 or 1.1.1
    Error 1015
    Error 1013
For us kinder souls, I guess these errors are OK ..
To sproglet , what is the DFU and other mode for ?
    http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16051
tells me that DFU is for the ARM core processor. So does the "other mode" actually update the ARM bootloader?
