Are hardware unlocked iPhones immune to the 1.1.1 update brick?
Hi,
Does anyone knows if a hardware unlocked iphone could be updated without brick? Im not sure if the hardware unlock bypasses the Apple fix and i can't find anywhere onthe web this info.
Thanks :-)

the hadware unlock will still brick as it is effectively the same as an anysim unlock
only ipsf unlock won't brick

I've heard the hardware unlock works, since you short a pin to bypass the iphone's bootloader... which is what the dev team is stuck at... can someone confirm?

Mine is hardware unlocked, the guy on the store said i could update, gave me a warranty of 6 months, but i'm not confident yet, maybe i will try go there and try the update in front of them if possible

I think the hardware unlock will be undone since the update overwrites the modem firmware. So dont.

Nice to know. I will wait for the community then. Thank you very much! :-)

If u update using the hardware unlock u will get this ( phone reports "Invalid SIM" with AT&T SIM card. IMEI changed to 004999010640000
After doing downgrade to 1.0.2, the IMEI number is still 004999010640000, and baseband is still 04.01.13_G)

Now that the software solution for 1.1.1 is near, i was wondering if it would be possible to use it on an 1.02 hardware unlocked iphone or the hardware unlock make the software unlock impossible?

The hardware unlock is only a firmware patch just like anysim. The difference is that anysim relies on a software bug in order to be able to write to the baseband, while the hardware unlock does not rely on that bug. I think the hardware unlock will work on 1.1.1, and probably also on future updates. But such unlock will never survice an update (except updates where baseband is not updated). I've written more about why here.
