Thumbs up [ULTIMATE GUIDE for Windows] Updating 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 - [UPDATED!]

    - PART 1-

Read CAREFULLY the whole guide before even starting with your iPHONE!

THIS GUIDE WILL NOT WORK FOR iPHONES SOLD WITH SOFTWARE v 1.1.2 (OTB) BECAUSE OF THE NEW BOOTLOADER v4.6.

THIS GUIDE WILL NOT WORK FOR UNLOCKED iPHONES v 1.0.2

YES, THIS GUIDE IS VERY DETAILED, DON'T BE SCARED! ACTUALLY, THIS MAY HELP YOU OUT...

I KNOW, THIS IS NOT THE FASTEST WAY, THERE ARE MANY VARIATIONS OUT THERE! BUT SO FAR THIS IS THE SAFEST I TRIED... AND IT WORKS!

    -------------------
Good reasons to update to 1.1.2
    -------------------

*)SMS Management (the Europeans will like this one!)
    - No more unreadable messages
    - No more empty messages
    - Now the SMS from alphanumeric senders works (sms sent from banks, websites, carriers, ...)
    - The phone numbers within the SMS are recognized and the SMS is linked to the iPhone contact list
    *) International Support
    - UK English, German, Italian and French languages
    - international keyboards
*) Improved Phone Number Format/Caller ID matching for supported countries
    *) New modem Firmware (04.02.13_G)

*) More accurate battery status indicator
*) Battery status indicator in iTunes

    -------------------
    1.1.2 Stability
    -------------------

I've been hard testing this software version for more than a week. I used the method described in this guide to update my AnySIM unlocked 1.1.1 iPhone to 1.1.2.

-> NO crashes or weird behaviors so far!!! <-

Ipod functions, Mail, Safari, YouTube, SMSs, Wi-Fi, EDGE...

I have NOT installed 3rd party apps so far.

    I have NOT installed iWorld.

I'm currently measuring the battery performance.

-> 1.1.2 seems definitely to be MORE stable than 1.1.1. <-

    -------------------
    Requirements
    -------------------

    Hardware Requirements:

    - Unlocked iPhone v.1.1.1 (AnySIM 1.1)

    - anySIM 1.2.1u
    - iBrickr v0.91
    - 1.1.2 Jailbreak Software
    - Putty
--> the following archive contains all the above SW <--
    http://r_a_p_i_d_s_h_a_r_e.com/files...111_to_112.rar (remove the “_”) *** 335 Downloads ***
--> USE ONLY THE TOOLS CONTAINED IN THIS FILE <--
    - winSCP (v 4.0.5)

    - Apple firmware file v 1.1.2 (optional)
    - iTunes 7.4.3 (keep reading for further details)
    - Java runtime installed in your PC

    Preparing the tools...

Create a new folder and extract there the archive you just downloaded.
This should be the content of that folder:

    anySIM.app (folder)
    ibrickr_v0.91 (folder)
    Mecca (folder)

    -------------------

Yes, you can use custom ringtones!

Using winSCP and the "mecca" file you find in the archive you downloaded at the beginning of this guide, follow the instructions you find in the following thread:
    http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13656 thanks to n000b!

To create your own ringtone these are the easy steps:

    - Start from an MP3 file
    - Use and AUDIO editing tool like AUDACITY to crop/cut/select and save as mp3 the part you want (this is optional)
    - use iTunes to convert it to AAC (.m4a) sound file format
    - rename the file you obtain to ringtone_name<space>.m4r
    - upload it to your iPhone in the /Library/Ringtones folder
    - the new ringtone will appear in Settings->Sounds->Ringtones

    ===
Custom Ringtones Alternative [Update - Thanx SpyHunter39]
    ===

After the whole process is finished you can also update iTunes to 7.5 and use the following trick to have custom ringtones:

    http://www.tuaw.com/2007/11/11/itune...tom-ringtones/

    ===

    THE END

    I hope this helps....

    Feedback and rating are welcome!!!!

    CHEERS!

I will keep updating this post in the next few days....

How about these steps which are much easier

    1. Jailbreak, Ac tivate then Unlock 1.1.1 with AnySim 1.1
    2. Install OKtoPrep manually if Installer doesnt work
    3. Update to 1.1.2
    4. Jailbreak/Activate using iDemocracy or simply clicking the windows.bat file
    5. Turn on Airplane mode and to off Auto-Lock (set to Never)
    6. Install AnySim 1.2.1u from http://rep.frenchiphone.com (add this source and refresh)
    7. Run unlock -> Done

    Frantona,

Make sure You have iTunes 7.4.3 (repeat steps 1.18 -1.22)

If you have succesfully updated the iPhone with version 1.1.2 the first time (Step 2)
then restart the procedure from step 3.1 by putting your iPhone in recovery mode...

    FOLLOW EACH STEP CAREFULLY!!!!!

    Let me know!

    Good luck.

    Question F.A.Q. Section

    F.A.Q. & TROUBLESHOOTING SECTION

    -------------------
    Step (4.44) AppSnap Installation:
    -------------------

If you are getting problems installing AppSnap (e.g. after you press "install AppSnap" safari quits and then nothing happens for more than 5-8 minutes) try the following.

    1) Make sure your wi-fi/internet connection is still working!
    2) Make sure the http://jailbreakme.com server is still alive! (Some times AppSnap does not install because the server is temporarily down)
    3) Try again from step 4.31 (if you run into a pop-up with download percentage, WAIT! AppSnap is downloading, just wait for Appsnap to do the trick...)
    3) If still it does not work try this - THANKS - Bailey4427 - and - Sassha -
Add one more URL - http://jailbreak.toc2rta.com
Before visiting jailbreakme.com i first visit jailbreak.toc2rta.com, safari crashes, then visit jailbreakme.com , its worked for me every time!"
