Guide: Recovering an iPhone 2G
Hello all,
A friend was trying to unlock one iPhone 2G that was never unlocked with BootNeuter and he couldn't so he asked my help. I've never messed with iPhones, but started to helping him.
iPhone Status:
- Firmware 3.1.2
- Baseband BLANK
- WiFi GREYED OUT
- Bluetooth GREYED OUT
- IMEI 00 49XX...
- Error code 23 when trying to restore with iTunes 9.0.2 (Even DFU)
I think what really happened was he tried to unlock with BootNeuter and didn't wait long enough.
What I did:
Uninstalled Apple Device Support, Apple Application Support, Apple Firmware Upgrade, Bonjour, iTunes and QuickTime on Control Panel. Removed folders of QuickTime on Program files, Apple folders on Documents and Settings\your_username\Application Data\ and Documents and Settings\your_username\Local Settings\, well, all folders related to iTunes. Manually deleted iTunes Library on My music folder then rebooted the computer. Once it came back, installed iTunes 7.5.025 and DFU-ed several versions of firmware until 1.1.1 (you can probably get lucky with another version), when I got baseband, WiFi and Bluetooth back but IMEI stayed 00 49XX...
In my case I downgraded to 1.0.2 and downgraded baseband to 03.14.08 to run a virginator (thanks to volksposts) to try to fix the IMEI, which didn't fixed.
Anyway, once you got everything back except IMEI, DFU 3.1.2, jailbreak the way you prefer, install BootNeuter and unlock it. After you got "Succeeded" message, if it hangs with "Please wait - Determining settings" wait about 10 minutes and reboot iPhone. You should now have a unlocked phone and correct IMEI.
Thanks to Olethros and dtube for all the help along my case!
If you see any typo or wrong path/instruction, please post and I will correct.
