Question Getting 8GB Refurb IPhone - Advice?

    Hi there

I hope I don't step on any toes asking for advice here.

But here is my question; I'm just looking for advice on the best route to take in my situation:

I ordered 2 refurb 8GB iPhones that should be here tomorrow (3/20). I have T-Mobile and I'm in contract. I obviously don't want to break that and pay the $200!! So I want to unlock/activate and jailbreak my phones if possible.

I have talked to a friend that used Ziphone but he only used it to jailbreak his phone so he isn't familiar with the unlock/activate process it provides. I have read EVERY guide/forum post online and have yet to come up with a good step by step process to follow so I don't screw anything up.

I'm not sure if the phones will ship with 1.1.4...I'm assuming they would since that's the newest. So then I would use Ziphone 2.6b?

Does anyone know of an easy guide that will walk me through what I need to do exactly? I don't want to mess anything up and I just want some friendly advice

    I would appreciate any help!

    Here's my info:
    Macbook w/ OS X 10.4.11
    iTunes 7.6.1

Use iPlus 2.0b. Look at the sitck threads of this forum. This is the safest way.

Thank you guys! FedEx pushed back the delivery date to tomorrow (figures...always happens with FedEx).........(just as I typed that the delivery truck pulled up to bring something to....my neighbor! Aw!)

I think i'll keep reading up on the process and become super confident and I'm trusting that tomorrow I'll have two unlocked iPhones! I appreciate the advice

My coworker got his refurb from AT&T for $249 yesterday. Be sure you check the version first. His arrived with firmware 1.0.2

We "restored" him to 1.1.4 and then used iplus 2.0b without any hitch. His phone is working great, and you can't beat the price. Just wanted to let you know that you will most likely need to "restore" to 1.1.4 first.

I got in on the same deal. Mine came with 1.1.1. These are the steps I took, and are likely to be the same for you, as long as you restore to 1.1.4 first:

"Just to clear things up, here is exactly what I did for a 1.1.1 OTB refurbed 8 gig iphone.

    1. Downloaded the 1.1.4 restore image from the thread in the general forum

    2. Downloaded the LATEST version of iTunes

    3. Connected iPhone, let iTunes find it.

    4. Shift click restore, then locate the restore image, and begin process(DFU MODE NOT NECESSARY!!!)

    5. Let restore do it's thing, and then wait to iPhone to reboot into "slide for emergency" state

    6. Run iPlus as mentioned at iClarified.

    Everything, including youtube works great."

    can anyone help?

    thanks in advance
Connect your phone to computer and in itunes click on restore.Itunes will download the latest firmware (1.1.4) from apple and install it on your phone.

If you want to save time and already have 1.1.4 downloaded to your computer, then after connecting phone, hold down shift and click on restore in itunes.A new window will open and you can browse/navigate to the firmware that you want to install which has already been downloaded on your computer.

Its just for saving time as the apple server is busy and itunes takes a lot of time downloading the 1.1.4 firware.
First ever Apple product I bought : iPhone.

hey guys! thanks a lot for all the help...I got my phones and they came with 1.1.3. Instead of messing with the restore to 1.1.4 (I was a little confused on that as well), I just found the version of ZiPhone that works with 1.1.3 (ziphone 2.4). I found a guide on iClarified and followed it and both phones unlocked without a hitch.

Everything works perfect and I downloaded the hack that enables the use of the $5.99 unlimited internet plan from t-mobile so I've got internet and email for six bucks!

So thanks again for the advice my boyfriend and i love our phones!
