    Turn it on
    Hold power button
    Move the red slider
    Wait
Press power and immediately after you see a gray apple press and hold for approx 20 sec HOME and POWER

IPhone does not require to be activated to go to a restore.

My guess is: you still have FW 1.1.1.
There is a post how to check firmware version even if deactivated.

    In Emergency call *3001#12345#*
Under Versions you will find what revision firmware is on the phone out of the box.

    03.12.06_G Is firmware 1.0.0
    03.14.08_G Is firmware 1.0.1 and 1.02
    04.01.13_G Is 1.1.1

    I had 1.1.1 now it is 1.02

dude.. even if u did that, the baseband still has the data from 1.1.1,, u CANNOT replace the 1.1.1 baseband with an older version. That has been confirmed by many ppl out here

ya. why the topic still not locked. This method proved not working by many people already.
