Well I was in Shenzhen on the weekend and fu**ed if I could find one. I even went to a big multilevel wholesale phone outlet and couldn't find one. I am not asian though. Just asking for a TurboSIM etc got weird stares and looks. I managed to find a sim blocker but it only worked with AT&T. The manufacturer of the product even came around and offered to reprogram his chip with the 02 details but I had to leave my phone with them for testing so I opted out. I also noticed in HK on the weekend that they are also selling iPhones using a SIM option. They are very flexible version using the same material used for ribbon cable. You need double sided tape to hold them firmly together or they just dont connect. Very flimsy product but $33 bucks. I guess you pay for what you get.
Anyway STILL locked damn it...

this is a joke, believe me, if you look at the picture in detail you will see that's not really a iphone. Same thing as a faked rolex watch in China.
Anyway, talking about the OBT 1.1.2 unlocked in China. The story is like this, a guy who is a cell phone seller in other states of China has ordered two iphones from a distributor (for smuggled iphones) in SHENZHEN. This seller received two iphones, one of which come with a stealth-sim-like patch card, so it's okay to make phone calls. Another one is also a OBT 1.1.2, without the stealthsim inside, but can also make phone calls (for sure not the at&t sim card inside). So this seller is extremlly excited and thinks that the OTB 1.1.2 should have already been unlocked but someone who wants to keep this as a secret for longer profit making.
The question is, there is a argument now on the w-eiphone.com forum about this thread, most people believe that this should not be a real soft-unlock, but a hard one. As what the stealth sim could do, those distributors have just disassembled the iphone and patched a chip inside by welding some wires linking with the simslot. We can wait for a few days long, I believe someone will, at the end of the day, disassemble a unlocked OBT 1.1.2 to find out exactly what's going on with the iphone's mainboard. If this is true, then this is not a real unlock, since after APPLE's next update of FW, all the hard unlock method may be blocked again.

I am sure you are smarter than all of them to be able to post that piece of factoid.

My uncle works for an oil company and has been stationed in China near Shinzhen for almost a year. He says that you can buy unlocked iPhones from china (even with the new bootloader), right across the street from the plant where they are manufactured. They are completely legit iPhones (not clones) but just never get to Apple's hands; hence they remain unlocked.
A similar event was when HP designed one of their iPaqs, they were selling them in China before HP ever released them to the market. Very common in China; they make the stuff in their plants. why not take advantage of the situation.

Did you really think people posting "WTF UNLOCK 4.6 TODAY WITH MY GERBILS CLAW" would get such a good joke

We don't care what are your opinions about people, here.
This is a forum talking about hacking/moding devices.
So stay on topic.

They are certainly imported from US/EU.
Apple has foremen and engineers in all of their Subcontractor's Factories.
Only Apple owns the unlocked baseband. The factories just assemble the phones.
