    Lightbulb Fresh iPhones

    Hi everyone, interesting question -

    I have my new iPhone boxed and ready to open. It's a discontinued 4GB model that contains the old firmware - And has never been activated. My question is simple;

How would I go about unlocking it from here? I understand I would need the 1.02 iTunes update and whatnot, but is that still available? How could this be done? Without an unlock (as in full, the ability to call from any network) my iPhone is a fancy paperweight.

    -Kev

you might get flammed for posting this kind of question.

You can make a safe bet that your 4gb phone has FW 1.0.2 since it's discontinued. The old guides of unlocking phones upto FW 1.0.2 will work on your phone.

You may want to look at the DEV team's wikipedia... i forgot the address but throw in the term: "iphone dev" into google.

for iTunes: If you are looking for old versions, simpley search google: "software old versions"

Also: When you regestered for this forum, there is now a search button. search away, and it'll highlight terms for you. If you search it'll come (the unlock). There are a few locations on the web that has complete ZIPPED files for windows that has an entire toolbox from unopened box to 100% unlock. 100% means youtube activiation as well.

As the friendly Hackint0sh people told me:

    Happy Hacking!!

    Thumbs up

Fantastic! Thanks for the advice - I did search but I may be an idiot. One last stupid question - how will I be able to tell what firmware I have right out of the box?

i couldn't find the hackint0sh thread about this...

    http://www.reelsmart.com/2007/07/13/...worth-knowing/

*3001#12345#* and tap Call. Enter Field Mode.
Field mode reveals up-to-date network and cell information, GPRS, PDP, call information and firmware version. You can even do this while on another call. Just hit “add call”, enter the code and tap Call. This mode will display more information than you probably want to know! Tap on Refresh to update the info or tap Home to return to your normal iPhone interface

I beleive this is what you want. Slide to the right, get to the emergency dialpad, then tap this number in.

i know your a newbie. that's ok. it's not 'easy' to search for infomation if you don't know what the search terms are. Hell, I don't even *own* an iphone beucsae i dont have the 4-5 hundred dollars for it. I came to hackint0sh to learn about shit, esp. the iphone. that's what hacking is all about: learning.

If you take a few nibblets of infomation given in this thread and help someone else thats a newbie more than you, then you would have done a great service.

when you are sheer bored, read the first four pages of hackint0sh and maybe the first two pages of the therad. that's what I did since iDay (june 29). now, I feel competent to do such heavy duty hacking such as unlocking requires. once i get the funds together. lol :p
