If I have a 1.1.4 OTB will this eZiPhone unlock it? I don't want to downgrade my bootloader, what are the drawbacks of leaving the 4.6 in place?

    Yes, it will.

Search a couple of pages, the consensus is to NOT downgrade for the time being, or do it with the new 3.9blank method.

Yes, as all the (advanced) parameters since ZiPhone 2.0 till now have been the same.

The good thing is that the GUI hides the advanced parameter complexity.

ill stick with ziphone. If you cannot read or follow simple instructions you shouldnt be thinkering with your iphone in the first place.

Honestly, if Ziphone is too complicated for you, you are probably retarded or blind.
