    1) Make Sure iphone is off. Open itunes (Ver 7.4.1.2)

    2) plug your phone into your PC, and as soon as the gray apple appears, press and hold both power and home buttons. Hold for exactly 10 seconds, then let go of just the power button.(If you look very closely, after about 7 seconds the screen will power down and pixelate, this is the lead in to the hidden restore state.) After about another 15 Seconds of holding down the Home button, itunes will find your iphone and say it needs to restore.

    3) Shift - Restore and select the 1.0.2 Firmware. When it completes it will give you "1013" error message, press ok, and do not restore again... Just close itunes.

***From this point on you may have to run apptapp several times, depending on your PC***

    4) Open apptapp, select 1.0.2, and press ok. AppTapp should go thru the whole process, and may give you an error. Close AppTapp and open it again. Run AppTapp again on 1.0.2, and it should complete without an error.

***If at this step you do not see the "Waiting for Activation" screen, you will have an extra step. if you dont skip below the star.

*)If you have a Yellow Triangle still, you wil need to go into the folder you unzipped ibrickr. There is a icon that says iphoneinterface.exe. Double click, and you will get a prompt you can type from. Type "setenv auto-boot true" then hit enter. Then type "saveenv" then hit enter again. Last type "fsboot" and hit enter again. Close the command window, and after about 5 seconds you will see the Activation screen on your iphone, you may have to turn off and back on.

    5) Open Itunes, let it "see" the iphone, close itunes, then Run AppTapp one last time, then Run Paycay to Jailbreak.(if you need detailed instructions for these steps look at my previous guide steps 7 and 8)

Are you getting a 1604 error?

If so, uninstall iTunes, find a version earlier than 7.4.. like 7.3.2 and force a restore of the 1.01 or 1.02 firmware by hitting option restore in OS X or shift restore in Windows and selecting the firmware.

I had the same problem after a failed 1.02 jailbreak using iBrickr, but it worked to install the older version of iTunes and re

Apparently that error comes up when iTunesHelper isn't running.... just restart your computer before restoring. Worked for me

    Solution

I am sure all the ones who are having this problem
    we are using Windows.

This lady came to me with her iPhone and it crashed in
    the 1604 error.

Solution? Plugged it to a Mac and do it there.
    It worked in a blink.

    Or
Turn On Apple Mobile Device in ----> Control Panel ---> Administrative ---> Services.

    And execute ItunesHelper.exe.

    Or

Try this ...if you would like to completely Reboot the Phone..Remember this will reset your iPhone back to Factory Virgin Default... all information will be GONE.

    -reboot computer
    -Start up iTunes
    - Control---ALt ---Del---
    -Shut down iPhoneHelper.exe
    -lay iPhone flat on desk
-Press and hold down HOME button
-Plug in USB cable ....Still holding Down HOME button
    - Wait for iTunes to launch iPhone
    -Click on RESTORE
Wait for the iPhone to Restore itself

Go back and Unlock W/ ibrickr and the then Unlock iPhone Software.

    that is what im doing...

as soon as the apple show i hold the buttons, it says to me almost instantly
that it has found a phone to restore, but i keep it pressing for the indicated
times, then it disappear and the appear again for the restore of the phone..

i choose 1.0.2 the iphone screen flashes white and the apple logo shows with
a rotating circle made of bars.. itunes show preparing iphone for restore...

and then... the same error... couple of seconds later, phone reboot to the same itunes conector... damn...

error 1604 = you did not start Apple Mobile Device service, then try to start it manually from Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Services
