The AllowEDGEEditing tricky doens't work anymore.
    Any idea will be appreciated!!!
It's still there in the unknown carriers after update to 1.1.3 with ZiPhone. I gues the problem is a different one. See also my post (#4)
    http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=29192

1.1.3 has carrier bundles for the following apple conform customers: ATT (USA), o2 (UK), Orange (France), TIM (Italy), T-Mobile (Germany). Those bundles dont show the EDGE editing in network, cause the correct apn is set in there inside and the symlinc for the related simcards is present aswell. The Unknown-bundle still has AllowEDGEEditing set to boolean and yes.

But: If you use a simcard of one of the above namend carriers in those countries that is not from a real iPhone/Apple/Carrier contract, lets say a prepaid Xtra simcard (prepaid) from T-Mobile Germany, the following will happen. If inserting, the iPhone looks up the MCC/MNC network code from the simcard. In the above example the five digit code for Xtra T-Mobile is the same as for the one you get from an T-Mobile-iPhone-contract.
The iPhone looks up if a corresponding MCC/MNC (Simcard) is present on the iPhone. In this case it will finde one (symlinc) tat points to the Tmobile bundle and uses it - NOT the unknown one. Same applies to situations in the other countries.
As for T-Mobile in this case not only the EDGE editing is not present, the apn is wrong aswell (the one that is inside the TMobile.bundle.

So in one of the cases above, open the carrier bundle and add the Allow... thing. The problem will only happen to those people. If you are using the iPhone in another country, there is a different MCC/MNC, no matching symlinc on the phone so the unknown.bundle is used. That one already has the editing thing set.

    Hi, thANKS FOR THE INPUT.

I can confirm that my iphone is using the unknown.bundle. And as you said the in that bundle the AllowEDGEEditing set to boolean and yes. However, I can't see the edge menu in the setting.

I also tried to add the line to carrier.plist in o2_uk.bundle and use a o2 sim instead, the edge menu appears in this case.

It seems that it is something wrong with the carrier.plist in the unknowbundle folder but when I examined the file and it seems to be correct.

    Can anyone give any thoughts?

I eventually got some form of EDGE connectivity using a PAYG sim, and the old PAYG settings - Im guessing o2 have changed (or I need a different set) of APN/user/pass.

There's a load of folders aside from the named bundle carriers, you may want to add the 'allowedgeeditting' line to all of them just to be sure.

did you check the MCC/MNC with the simcard you are going to use in the iPhone?

On the iPhone start the phone app and switch to the keypad and type
    *3001#12345#*
and then tap the green dial button. That opens the iPhoene app Field Test. Tap "Cell Information" The last two of the set will display something like (in your case)
    N:3 #:262
meaning the MCC/MNC code is 26203.
    N:10 #:234
    meaning the MCC/MNC is 23410
    or....

    Open the website
    http://www.flatbatt.co.uk/Unlocking/...ork_codes.html
and search for the result, it will show up the related carrier. Thats the one, your iPhone "thinks" you are using. Look on the iPhone if the symlink (MCC/MNC) is there. If not, unknown.bundle is used. Inthis case add a new or edit one of the present bundles to your needs, create a symlink.

Then do the switch routine (important). On the running iPhone insert the ATT-card that came with the iphone and restart it. Then (ignore error messages) switch simcards again (insert the one you wanna use) and restart again. iPhone needs that routine every time you switch simcards to properly recognize the card and the related bundles.

    hope that helps

the allowedgeeditting thing is only to be applied to the binary carrier.plist inside the bundle

When I add a new bundles and create a symlink, I can get the edge menu.

However, my case is that when the unknown.bundle is used (this can be check from private/var/mobile/Library/Carrier%20Bundle.bundle/), I have no edge menu in the general setting. I have checked the carrier.plist in the unknowbundle folder but it seems to be correct (the AllowEDGEEditing set to boolean and yes!) can anyone tell me how i can fix the problem?

Is the 7.50 bolt on subject to 200mb fair usage?
