    Default The Easy Way-->virginize 1.0.2-->upgrade to 1.1.1-->unlock 1.1.1

I have been on and off this forum for some time now debating if i should upgrade my previously unlocked (anysim) iPhone to the newer 1.1.1 apple update. It all seemed so complicated even the idiot proof guides didnt look that strightforward.

This is my experience of how I did it.

NO PC/MAC required except to connect to itunes to update.

1: go to website: iphone.unlock.no/ website,

2:followed instructions on the site to virginize ( involves adding a new source to the installer app on the iphone, then initiating)

3:updated using itunes (not restored just updated)

4n the same site followed the elsewhere well documented instructions on bypassing activation and installing apptap using jailbreakme.com.

    5: reinstalled anysim 1.1

    6: unlocked the iphone

This was so simple for me I couldnt believe no computer involved in any step other than to update the iphone using itunes

hi i tried this method and i messed up..
i started with 1.0.2..i followed step 1 and 2 and it updated the baseband..however when i got to step 3..it would not update to 1.1.1 through itunes..so i downloaded the 1.1.1 from the website and tried to do it manually..big mistake..as it set my phone in recovery mode and it still wouldnt work with the 1.1.1 file..so i tried to recover with the 1.0.2 file that i had backed up from before and now i'm stuck at the activation screen on the phone with the incorrect sim msg..plllllzzzzzzzz help

I'm so glad an easy way has finally been created! I have an easy quicky question:

Does virginizing the phone in this way wipe the memory? Will it delete my contacts, calendar events, EDGE preferences p.list, etc?

    Thanks

    yes it does.
but after you have done the re-virgin process, you can always sync from itunes back to phone.

That's still a huge PITA. It took me a long time to get me tmobile tzones settings right. And I don't have a compatible calendar program on my PC to sync my many calendar events with. We're still just talking about a few minor updates with 1.1.1, and it still seems not worth it.

can anyone help me with my situation? i just want to get my phone back working with 1.0.2..so if anyone can tell me what to do it would be greatly appreciated..

i used the call myself method mentioned on the website to get some info from my settings/general/about that may let u guys understand the current state of my phone..it now says:
    version: 1.0.2 (1C28)
modem firmware: 03.14.08_G (this used to be 04.01.13_G before i
    attempted any of this)

what do i need to do to get it back functioning on 1.0.2?

If you have MS outlook on the PC, it does work very nicely with itunes + iphone. Some of the minor updates with 1.1.1 are really nice (e.g: able to hit home button twice to get to ipod control while it's playing).

you need outlook 2003 or later. Is there a free program I can use?

Also, windows address book doesn't have a category for mobile numbers, so I guess I'd basically lose all my contact info too!

Add to that the fact that I'll need to re-enable my tzones hack (PITA!)...

This is ridiculous. Upgrading would take hours and hours of reprogramming all my info into the phone. Screw 1.1.1!

    MJ.

I had the same problem. I virginized and then could not update to 1.1.1. So, I simply restored to 1.0.2. Which, threw me into the Activate iPhone message.

What I did is resorted to my old 1.0.2 hacking folders. I used the WinInstaller utility to Jailbreak the phone. I also used this to Activate and install the AppTappInstaller.

When all this was working, I downloaded iTunes 7.4.2 and then selected "Update" option to go to 1.1.1.

I followed all the instuctions to Jailbreak\Activate\AnySim the 1.1.1 version and voila, everything is working fine for a revirginized previously unlocked 1.02. phone.
