Downgrade 1.1.1 to 1.0.2
Downgrade guide:

Thanks for Kmac1985 for discovering this.
P.S.: This does NOT downgrade your baseband. Fixes for bb will follow asap.*
*This means you cannot fix 0049 issue atm, reunlock or do similar things involving the baseband yet.

I'm not clear on what this does. I followed the instructions; downgraded to 1.0.2, but I am still stuck with the same "Incorrect SIM" message as before.
The onscreen 'i' now displays the correct corresponding IMEI number found on back of the device though. Whether that's a positive or negative sign I haven't a clue.

Preliminary reports say that the OS is downgrading but the modem firmware is not (aka, the modem firmware stays at 04.01.13_G instead of downgrading to 03.14.08_G). This allows use of Wi-Fi but not GSM functions (phone/edge/sms) unless you're using AT&T.
This does not downgrade the baseband, only the firmware! Your only going to have wifi after the downgrade.

Hmm. Scratch that. After rebooting I get the same generic 0049 IMEI number. What the hell?

Alright, so how do I go about updating baseband...or hasn't that been achieved yet?

It hasn't been achieved yet, I recall a post saying that bbupdate does not work....
ah here it is:

Here are the steps:
1) Make sure you have a copy of the 1.0.2 firmware handy in ipsw and decrypted form
2) Reboot iPhone holding top (power) and home buttons *BUT* release the top button 10 seconds into it (right after the screen goes dark)
3) The iPhone screen will appear to be off, but start iTunes (latest version worked for me on the Mac)
4) Option+Click restore and select the 1.0.2 firmware ipsw
5) The phone will restart and error out at the end with an unknown error 1013, this is expected
6) Restart iTunes and let it get to the screen that says you have an invalid SIM
7) Launch the latest iNDpendence
8) Jailbreak the phone using a decrypted 1.0.2 (it will flash all sorts of error, but stick with it)
9) Activate the phone
10) It will show the SIM error but you should be able to get back in
I installed AppTapp afterwards along with the BSD subsystem and SSH, all working over wireless only.
So far, bbupdater will not revert the firmware.

He mentions in the end that bbupdater will not revert the baseband (though he says firmware).

I say someone update the first post with a FAQ.
Something along the lines of what this means, does, what it doesn't do etc etc...
According to the wiki, it allows the iPhone to use wifi, whether that means also the iPod function is available is unclear, but the GSM functions such as SMS/Voicemail/Calling are unavailable unless you have an AT&T simcard.

This pretty much sums it up I think.

Please move this to general, as this have nothing to do with SIM or software unlocking.
