And if they hold this jailbreak till the next update, and it isn't patched by Apple then i will apologise to the entire hacking community. But I find it very hard to believe that with the amount of security already put into the iPhone, Apple isn't going to let it slide into the next update.
please correct me if i'm wrong
the tiff exploit held from 1.0 ->1.1.1......

There is no guarantee that Apple fill find weaknesses and it will be patched unless it’s exploited. If Apple could patch all the exploits in one release then it will be impossible to find unlock/jailbreak from the first update of 1.0.1.

Think of it as a cat and mouse game. The only way to survive is to stay one step ahead. Showing your hand before an update is sure way get that weakness patched. I guess it's similar to the way that anti-virus/Microsoft release updates and service packs when exploits are found.

    Why be so negative?

    Let's say that they're bug-testing the jailbreak.

Would that sooth your eagerness? ^^

    Maybe a little...lol.

I don't want anyone to think I have anything against the Dev team, or any of those guys. I just don't think that Apple is waiting on them. And I'm more eager for a s/w unlock then a jailbreak, but both would be lovely. Sorry if I've offended anyone but this is just my opinion.

Arguments on both sides are strong but I will side with releasing the exploit now.

Since the Dev Team has released the fact that there is an exploitable bug in this firmware, Apple will doubble it's efforts to fix it before the SDK comes out. The exploit will be patched by the next update one way or another.

My point exactly: assuming Apple is monitoring these forums then they know the exploit is there, and are following all our convo's on how we think we can hack it. So either way I believe it will be patched next time around. Then tonne's of n00b's will upgrade to 1.1.4 instead of "shift+upgrade" and we'll have 500 threads of "omg i updated by accdnt HELP!".

Lol, so please, if you're not gonna unload it on us till the sdk, please, please bundle it with iunlock! And keep us informed! haha.

Nothing like good conspiracy theories to start the day

considering nobody knows who was hosting this page exactly, I believe this is just a plain old server crash, and people are trying to locate the owner to fix stuff

Well i agree with some of the argument that Apple will be busy Bees looking for this exploit; however, with the Dev Team "hiding their hand"... Apple can only try to find the exploit and patch, but they have no guarentee that they found the same one that the Dev team found. If the Dev team shows what they have... well then even if apple isn't waiting on hackers... they will fix what they know is wrong. Dev team has a smart approach. I hate it... but it is smart and i can respect that! *now makes me wish i was good programmer to be on the "inner circle" to have free dibs at the JB* oh well.. i'll just play with iphysics till end of Feb.

Yea the JB likely uses an exploit, likely a streaming media quicktime related one or something along these lines, therefore Apple will simply go through their known exploit list at the US-CERT website and close all the holes for all their apps (at least those used on iPhone). Not only will this screw us all over, but they can claim it's part of their effort to increase OS X security, etc etc. What I'm saying is the hole the dev's are using will be patched, one way or the other. This could just increase the vigilance of the folks over at Apple.

Hell, Apple could force 1.1.4 to upgrade the bootloader to 4.6. This is less likely (maybe impossible), but you never know.
