    Hi there,
I am from Italy, I understand english but i am not so technical.....so please excuse me if my questions are simpleones or stupid ones.....i apologize...i have read lots of posts but i have very confused ideas and i dont want to brick my iphone....
sorry again if i write too much....i just want to be clear......so if you can help me you have all elements to give me correct help.

I have a 8Gb US Iphone...i bought it used. I wasn't told if it was with 1.0.2 and then upgraded to 1.1.1 or came out of the box already with 1.1.1.
I got it with 1.1.1 on it.
It was activated and used for a bit with a regular AT&T sim, which i was NOT given.....so I only have my italian sim to put in it.
    In "General" -->"About", i read:
    Model MA712LL
    Version 1.1.1 (3A109a)
Modem Firmware 04.01.13_G ---> is this the baseband version?

The phone works perfect: everything but phone functions.
It has no sim in it and i can use everything, when i put my italian sim it says
incorrect sim please insert a correct sim.

I am on a PC, I have wifi connection.

Ok now let's come to help i need.

I read the guide in the readme.txt file that is in the 1.1.2-jailbreak.zip file , but it changed some times or I did understood it changed....and so I am not sure if I have to downgrade or not. Do I?

What I have done up to now is:
step 1: skipped (I have 1.1.1 on my iphone, "probably" upgrade from "out of the box" 1.0.2 iphone week 39)
step 2a: skipped ( my iphone is already activated with itunes and regular AT&T sim)
    step 2b: DONE (everything ok)
    step 3: DONE (everything ok)
step 3b: skipped (i have not a ipod touch but a iphone)
Arrived here.,....I stopped, because I am a bit scared by the rest of guide....
    so let me ask you:
step 4: I have to upgrade and not restore, is it correct? Do I have to put my italian sim in the phone to do this? Or I need an AT&T sim in it? Or just do everything without any sim inserted?
    step 5: i read:
WARNING: If your iPhone is unactivated, it will be factory "hactivated" for you and YouTube enabled.
If this is not desired behavior, activate your iPhone with iTunes before proceeding.
what does this mean? what do I have to do? sorry it's not easy to underatand...for me)
always step 5: It says to close itunes and to connect the device to my computer.....but when should i have unconnected it? I had connected it in step 4....and nobody told me to unconnect it.....
always step 5: it says to run the windows.bat and follow instructions.....and that's it.....but I had read in a (previous?) guide that i had to run WinSCP (or something like that) and download Anysim 1.2u..... now I dont see anything like that.....so my head is messing up......can you tell me what to do?
i am very sorry......I am trying to work hard with my skills......but i am quite a newbie.....i hoped to understand reading many posts......but it messed up my ideas.....
Thanx for helping, very very much!

p.s.: in case any of you senior mates want to help me via msn, just gimme your account email by PM and I'll be there...thanx indeed!

Yes you need to upgrade, not restore. If you restore you will be erasing what OKtoPrep did to your phone to be able to jailbreak/activate in 1.1.2.

    step 5: i read:
WARNING: If your iPhone is unactivated, it will be factory "hactivated" for you and YouTube enabled.

If you don't have an AT&T account or don't plan on having one proceed. This method is for people that do not have an AT&T account and/or simcard. So you are good to go.

always step 5: It says to close itunes and to connect the device to my computer.....but when should i have unconnected it? I had connected it in step 4....and nobody told me to unconnect it.....

Well in step 4 they didn't require you to have iTunes connected (on) or disconnected (off), so don't worry about that. But for step 5 you ARE required to have iTunes disconnected, so do it!

Before you run the windows.bat (jailbraking 1.1.2) make sure you have the latest Java Engine installed!!! http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
Once you run windows.bat it will jailbreak and activate your phone.

You do need winSCP to installed the anySIM1.2.1u from the Elite Team.
See my instructions on how to use winSCP on this thread: http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16417

Maybe some residual files from the new jailbreak? I found (and deleted) root.zip and a touchFree directory. Also, there seems to be a whole set of duplicate directories in /private that I'm not sure are needed and could be taking up space... Any ideas?
