    Default Is it dead?

Using WinSCP I was attempting to change a theme/skin (I can't find a tutorial or guide which is good).

For some reason I removed the system folder and applications folder and replaced them with the theme folder which were named the same - This didnt work so I replaced them with the original backup I made.

Now all I see is the apple logo?

Let me get this right, you REMOVED the System and the Applications Folders?? Are you completely nuts??

Jesus man!! You have two options:

Option 1: Turn the phone off and then back on again, when the apple logo appears on the screen, hold the menu AND the power button for 20 seconds to get the phone into Restore mode and then do a Restore.

Option 2: When you put all the folders and files back, make sure you set all the permissions back to the way they where before you removed them!!

    Hey there pspsully,

I realize now it was pretty doppy move on my part.

When I run through those steps:

With off turn it on hold the on and menu buttons down for 20 secs, after about 8 seconds it flashes off and then comes back on to the apple logo and then at about 20 seconds turns off?

Start up iTunes first and plug in the phone. It should work.

I should know, my AppSupport file accidentally, brutally stabbed it self it self to death while brushing its' teeth...

    Cheers

Aha now it has a yellow triangle symbol with '!' and 'Please Connect to iTunes.

iTunes has the option to restore the iPhone but comes up with:

The iPhone has been unlocked would selecting check for updates screw it up or is there another option?

If you have an OTB 1.1.2 (which I do) you might want to restore to 1.1.2 before 1.1.1. I can't remember exactly what happened, but I had the same symptoms as you and was pretty scared for a while...

Just keep trying. Your files, which obviously accidentally, brutally cut their own heads of while combing their hair, all reside in the .ipsw file, i believe and should be fixed on a restore.

    Good luck

Ok, that does NOT look good...

Seriously, :p I remeber I got an error message now. Think it was same as the usual after restoring 1.1.1 or 1.0.2 only a 13 at the end.

I Restarted my PC (got a tip from someone) and iPhone and tried again. And I think that made it work again.

I'm now a proud owner of a completely useless iPod Touch... sigh

Just keep trying the DFU and restore thing and you should be good.

If your iPhone was not 1.1.2 when you bougth it, I would definitively try to make it work in whatever version it was before attempting the mass OS-file suicide.

It might work, but it's a risk that could fall back on me...

Try shift+restore 1.1.1 before any new adventures.

    Cheers.
