Converting a US iphone to UK firmware/bootloader
Hi,
I have a US sourced iPhone with v1.1.1 and I am in the UK, I am with O2 (contract) as well. It's activated, jailbroken and unlocked.
Is there any way to completely convert the iPhone to UK spec so it's effectively like an OTB UK iPhone?

You would have to be NUTS to want what you have requested.
Its okay to have the UK firmware, and baseband. But not the UK bootloader.
However when you go to 1.1.2 from a US phone the bootloader is not updated.
If you could could update the bootloader you would be on 4.6 bootloader with no opportunity of unlocking (as of yet...).

There's no practical reason to do this. Once you've upgraded to 1.1.2 simply chose the UK in settings and the phone will automatically give you essentially all the settings of the normal o2 phone. Also it will recognise your SIM and use the correct EDGE settings, and if you're contract is for an iPhone Visual Voicemail will also work, though you may need to diasable it and reenable it (voicemail). 1750 and 1710 I think, just google it.
Cheers.

Technically you can do the OktoPrep via Installer, upgrade, and jailbreak/activate.
O2 is an "approved SIM", you wouldn't even need to unlock the phone.
So it would be close as you can get to an UK version, but you would be able to unlock @ 1.1.2 eventually.

socal... what do u mean he wouldnt need to even unlock the phone.. as ive heard before the US phone with updated to 1.1.2 is still locked to ATT and ATT only so he would only be able to use ATT sim unless of course its unlocked... am i wrong??.. and ive already asked this question somewhere else and nobody seems to give me a solid answer.. what happens if i get an 1.1.2 US OTB with the new bootloader would he then be able to use it with a legit 02 contract or TMOBILE contract activating through itunes in europe
