Well I guess that it involves more cutting and pasting and overlaying (will take only a few days???) until such time as the Dev Team can find how to exploit the EEPROM approach. The problem is, IPSF is exploiting information that only Apple people have and I can't believe that they figured this out on their own without the help of someone from Apple
Not a bad analysis at all.
Apparently some people seem to forget that IPSF is a COMMERCIAL service, offering unlocks for money. Before the unlock solution was available, there has been a lot of behind the curtains stuff going on between various persons/groups/companies and a lot of money was apparently involved.
Where a lot of money is involved, getting inside information isn't that hard.
Of course I don't want to make any unjustified assumptions...

There is however no doubt that commercial unlock services don't actually have a lot of sympathy for the Dev Team and the community since every freely unlocked phones is lost money for them. So go figure...

Just a thought on this whole IPSF issue.

What if (and I have no idea if this makes sense from a technical aspect) that IPSF used the IMEI #'s and serial numbers from the iPhone unlocks that they presold; and then supposedly put on thier servers to directly distribute the unlock to the paid phones with the proper numbers upon the request?

In other words, is it possible they used the supplied data that their customers provided to them to directly corralate each individual phone unlock to be unique to that specific phone?

As it was said already in various posts and documents (wiki, geohot's explanation etc.), at the early beginning, the dev team started the "normal" SGold chip approach like it is done with various mobil phones. Then they debugged and traced the bootloader and found this version check.

I'm far from believing that this has anything to do with insider information, it's simply the result of normal reverse engineering.

Snowbird is referring to ISPF not the dev team as having inside knowledge.

Clearly IPSF is recovering information from their server. What this information is, I'm afraid that I don't know. What I do know, however, is that this information is used to flash the iPhone's EEPROM which results in a permenant unlock.

    i did dude..
i found a thread from pspsully.. but doesnt work.. that he say
    (Elaborated)

Install SSH on iPhone using installer.app or ibrickr or whatever you want. In ibrickr, i created a new folder called unlock, in this folder i uploaded bbupdater, ICE03.14.08_G.eep and ICE03.14.08_G.fls. I then used Putty to connect to the iPhone and ran the following commands,

    # chmod +x bbupdater
    # launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
    # ./bbupdater -f *.fls -e *.eep
    # launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
After doing this i got an error saying failed to download fls image, could not verify or something like that. I restarted the iPhone and did the same thing again, the exact same commands as above and this time got no error.

    can fix the bb
    but not working..

Couldn't agree with you more and you just -- more of less -- restated exactly what I said in my original post.

It's obvious that the Dev Team exploited known information/techniques regarding the Infineon. What other choice did they have? Since we know so very little regarding the S-Gold2 (still trying to get my hands on Geohot's 1100 page technical manual which he claims he has?????), their Unlock was really the best that anyone could do in light of the circumstances.

However, when looking at IPSF's unlock, clearly they had some insider information regarding the multimedia engine that no one else has which made putting together a more permenant lock much easier. I assume that they are mobile phone engineer's for another mobile phone manufacturer and have indepth knowledge of the Infineon.
