Same here. When I hit the voicemail button on a hardware unlocked phone it does nothing. Also, when I get a voicemail, I dont receive the normal sms notification that I do on other phones. Any assistance appreciated!

Hmmm... I have Hardware unlocked my iPhone and my Voicemail button goes direct to the correct number for my provider.
I am on Orange in the UK.
I assume that the default VM number is stored on the sim card.
Try putting your sim in an old phone and try setting the VM number again.
Then re insert your sim into your iPhone.
This is a guess I am afraid but it's worth a bash!

I tried putting the SIM in another phone and even though the VM number was already set I did it again. Put it back in the iPhone, but still, the button doesn't do anything.
Any other ideas?

Strange. I'm on Orange too (in Switzerland) and the voicemail button works fine. But I don't get the notification by sms.

To anyone who has VM button working - when you put the sim into another phone, how are you configuring the VM number? (is it like on the nokia's where you hold down the '1' button till it either dials VM or asks you for the VM number?). Or is it one of the stored contact numbers saved on the SIM? Either way, can you confirm which phone you used to set the VM number and if it's stored as a sim contact the exact name you use (case sensitive)?
In case it's of relevance, I am using mine on Telstra mobile and the vm number i use is '101'.

Just a followup - I put my sim into a friend's Nokia 6070, held the '1' key down and was told that voicemail wasnt setup, so I set it up, put the sim back in the iphone and unfortunately, the voicemail button still doesn't work, nor does the carrier notification of a waiting voicemail.
