If your voicemail access number is a long code international number (e.g. Orange UK = 447973100123), type the command:
AT+CSVM=1,"447973100123",145
confirm its been taken with:
AT+CSVM?
Exit Minicom with Ctrl A Z x
[...]
I am getting the AT+CSVM command to execute and return OK, but then the AT+CSVM? command still shows the same (unchanged) number. How can that be? No SIM lock code or anything like that (and in any case it would cause AT+CSVM to return ERROR)
Here is the session transcript:

(by the way, I tried to do this the easy way with *5005 etc, but it didn't work either. I am on T-Mobile USA and I am trying to repoint the default VM number to a custom service. I did stop CommCenter.)

To those of you using telstra VM 101 Optus VM 321
Go to the phone icon. enter the following *5005*86*xxx# as though you were dialing a phone nbr
xxx being the 3 digit VM nbr you use to call ur VM.
Your voicemail button is now programed
Problem I have found with telstra, it does not notify you when someone has left you a msg. ie. you have 1 voicemail dial 101 to listen etc.

Hi,
I'm with ATT (US) but without the data plan or visual voicemail, so my voicemail icon does not work. What is the "xxx" voicemail number for ATT? and will this method works on my case?
Thanks

This is really easy.
Go to the dialpad and simply type *5005*86*xxx# and then hit call. xxx represents the 3 digit code to dial your local voicemail, ie with Vodafone in the UK it is 121

You do not have to go the way to the minicom try this:
*5005*86*xxxx# (xxxx is your voicemail number) press Call. After this your Voicemail Button can call your Mailbox.

Have you been able to fix the voicemail alert sms?

Is there a way to add your voicemail password in to the number of your voicemail access, so that once you press the voicemail button on the dock, it dails voicemail, plus enters the passcode with a delay I think by entering a few commas between passcode and access number.
End result would be on touch of tab, and it starts giving you voicemail without havine to enter passcode too?
I am on ATT USA charter plan,
Cheers,
