Thanks for this detailed solution- I tried this and my No Service problem went away with the "Short Solution" - But within an hour I lost service again and my phone has been dead since.
Current state
Phone : 1.0.2 (never upgraded to 1.1.1)
NoWifi- (greyed out)
No Sound
No phone functionalities ( ocassionally displays "Repair Needed")

Tried reflashing baseband- bbupdater gives error stating "baseband bootloader too old try using 1.8 or later"
Tried ieraser with secpack- ieraser hangs at "Waiting for Data..."

Any ideas?? suggestions?? I am out of options

do a bit more searching and you'll find a solution in this forum to help you out. i've seen this from a few people here.

NO SERVICE - FIX working 4days
maybe to complicated, but I was suffering for 10days till this fix worked.
1. brand new phone
2. firmware 1.0.2
3. IPSF unlocked, working 2weeks OK
4. no service (at this point I was doing everything possible which is posted all over the forums, but could get the FIX)
5. virginize, even the baseband stays crippled by IPSF (virginize = restore to 1.0.2)
6. activate and unlock with iUNLOCK (some say its risky)
7. still no service
8. install: installer, terminal V100, ULCTL, SSH, BSD, Springboard
9. find and download 314_bbfirmware
10. extract rename as described at source
11. place 314_bbfirmware files to iphone bin folder
12. unload-w Commcenter with ULCTL
13. in terminal type: bbupdater -e ICE03.14.08_G.eep
14. load-w Commcenter with ULCTL
15. restart
BINGO

I have travelled throughout Europe with 5different providers and had no problems.

all above apps and how to´s are all over the forums.

I have been fretting (is that a word) for the last week. I bought the phone in Seattle last week and was happy to find that my firmware was 1.02. I ran the jailbreaking and unlock via the iphone.unlock. instructions. I did get a "unlock successful" message. But I was not able to get any service.

I would admit i know almost nothing about computers and took my phone to a so called expert who had unlocked hundreds of phones. he did all kinds of things to it and explaimed that I now had an ipod touch.

I was so disappointed until i spent the last 4 days looking for something on the web. So happy to find this thread.

I beleive I went wrong when I origianally unlocked with the SIM card in.

I just opened my new 1.1.1 Iphone from the box followed the Ultimate Guide and managed to unlock/ activate the phone but it says no service

Can any one help me with this?

I tried both short and long method.....still no service, i guess...it is really hardware problem, while Applestore would not replace it .......

is there any other successful method to solve the NO SERVICE problem

will this work for 2.0.1? i am on holiday in the uk bt whew i change the sim card to a uk ( tesco ) sim card i get full reception then i put mine back in and no service
