So when I connect the iphone to itunes...it asks me to upgrade to 1.1.1 (I say no obviously). is this enough to determine that I'm running something older than 1.1.1?
I ask since the method in the first post didn't work for me. I hold down pwr and the home button and the iphone resets but only shows me the apple logo
Also the emergency number method didnt' work for me either
the iphone is straight out of the box...not activated
help
Did you try the emergency call trick to give you a code of firmware? for the 7R739 what code did it give you? Was it a 04.01.13_G? So far no one can confirm if it is definately 1.1.1 from that code. Were you able to get 1.0.2 on it? I have a week 39 and i think it has 1.1.1 on it, so I'm curious what findings you discovered. If in fact it was 1.1.1 Thanks and good luck.

What are the first five letters in the serials for the phones?

it seems we are getting confirmation that reading the week no tells us the firmware, 37 is 1.0.2, 38 is a mixture of 1.0.2 and 1.1.1 , and week 39 also seems to be a mixture of 1.1.1 and 1.0.2 , maybe week 40 will be all 1.1.1
read this from the 4th and 5th no in the serial
good luck

Hey guys,
What a great response...
so the emergency number wasn't working for me because I didn't include the last *
Stupid mistake...I must have misread the 1st post.
The phone I unlocked was the 7R739...so yeah, week 39. It DID NOT have the 1.1.1 firmware on it. The modem code is 3.14xxxxx-whatever it is.
The other two phones I have are the 7U738, so I'm going to guess that they are not 1.1.1 either.
Another way to check if your firmware is 1.1.1 is to simply connect the phone to your pc while itunes is open and check for updates. If it says 1.1.1 is available, you know yours is older firmware. I had no problems using the 1.02 restore file...and the unlock and activation went without any issues following the instructions on the 1st post.
THanks!
