I bought one today from Staten Island, NY
Serial # is 7R739***WH8
Pls help, don't want to pay restocking fee...

Same deal with me! I bought one from the Apple Palo Alto store today (Saturday, September 29th) with a similar serial number (7R739....WH8) and according to the emergency call method, I have a 1.1.1 firmware.
Getting the iPhone was one of the main reasons why I flew all the way from Hong Kong to the West Coast!
I'm trying to decide whether to return it or pray that someone will unlock the 1.1.1 firmware. I dare not do anything to the iPhone for fear of bricking it.
There was some speculation on this board that Apple stores wouldn't be selling 1.1.1 firmware phones so quickly after its release... I bought into that speculation... don't do it if you're still considering whether to jump at it!

Bought another iphone today with
serial # 7U738...
firware # 03.18
CONFIRMED 1.0.2 firmware.
bought it at buffalo
-
so, according to all the people posting here, the conclusions are:
03.12.06_G Is firmware 1.0.0
03.14.08_G Is firmware 1.0.1 and 1.02
04.02.04_G Is firmware 1.1.1 possibly & 04.01.13_G means 1.1.1
- checking the serial No.
iPhones with the 4th & 5th numbers being 39 and up, come with firmware 1.1.1 loaded
if someone can "demythify" one of the statements from above, that'll be of great help...

I went to Buffalo yesterday (Sat, September 29) and picked up 3 iphones.
The three serial numbers were:
- 7U738...
- 7U738...
- 7R739... ,- The package I opened and currently trying to unlock
So when I connect the iphone to itunes...it asks me to upgrade to 1.1.1 (I say no obviously). is this enough to determine that I'm running something older than 1.1.1?
I ask since the method in the first post didn't work for me. I hold down pwr and the home button and the iphone resets but only shows me the apple logo
Also the emergency number method didnt' work for me either
the iphone is straight out of the box...not activated
help
